Henri Konan Bedie, president of Cote d'Ivoire accused opposition parties of being behind two weeks of intermittent clashes between police and university students to discredit his government in the run-up to presidential elections. Student leaders, demanding increased bursaries and scholarships, have been arrested and troops have been deployed on campuses to prevent violence.
