Lyons University has launched an appeal to rebuild its library after three-quarters of its books, manuscripts and journals were destroyed. A fire on the night of June 11-12 burnt an estimated 350,000 out of 480,000 volumes. Periodicals, some dating back to the 18th century, and thousands of theses were lost but several hundred precious books, incunabula and manuscripts were saved.
