Foreign language lecturers are serving notice on Italy's official negotiating agency in order to escape automatic representation by trade unions, which have resumed negotiations for their new national contract. In 1994, the unions had signed a controversial contract on the lecturers' behalf downgrading them to technical-administrative staff.
