Reshmi Varma, the former director of St George's Hospital's fertility unit who claimed constructive dismissal against the school, has resolved her action amicably at an industrial tribunal.
In a joint statement this week, the medical school says that in recognition of Mrs Varma's "tireless and unselfish contribution" it will name its new IVF operating theatre after her and establish an annual lecture and prize in her name. A plaque will be erected in the new IVF unit to mark Mrs Varma's role in establishing the first unit. The school acknowledges that Mrs Varma found her position had become untenable and "regrets" her departure. The school says it will contribute to Mrs Varma's legal costs.
