In the biographical sketch of Kori Schake, the author of Safe Passage: The Transition from British to American Hegemony ( “When Britannia waived its rule” , Books, 8 February), Matthew Reisz writes that Schake “was born in Sonoma, California, ‘not far from where gold was discovered in 1848’’’. I just wanted to say how remarkably well I think Schake looks in the photograph accompanying the article for someone who will turn 170 this year.
