The methodology is based on the same framework as our World University Rankings, but some adjustments have been made and some new metrics have been included to reflect the features and missions of universities in the Middle East and North Africa.

KAUST in Saudi Arabia is number one in the Arab region, thanks to strong performances in the research environment, society and research quality pillars
Saudi Arabian universities take five of the top 10 spots, including all of the top three
Jordan has a university in the top 10 for the first time. The University of Jordan has risen to ninth place with particularly strong performances in the research environment and society pillars
Ahlia University in Bahrain is the highest-ranking new entrant at joint 17th thanks to high scores in the research quality and society pillars.

The Arab University Rankings 2024 are derived from the latest WUR 3.0 methodology, which is recognised as the world’s most comprehensive evaluation of university performance. It includes 20 carefully calibrated performance indicators to assess institutions across five key areas: teaching; research environment; research quality; society; and international outlook. Together they provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available.
