Basic information and contact details for Aichi University of Education

institution

Aichi University of Education has a history that dates back to 1873 when its predecessor, Aichi Prefectural Training Institution, was established. In 1949 the institution became Aichi University of Arts and Science and in 1966 it was renamed Aichi University of Education.

The university is located in the city of Kariya, in central Aichi Prefecture, Japan.

There is only one undergraduate faculty at the university, which is the Faculty of Education. It consists of two programmes for students to study: the contemporary liberal arts and science programme, and the teacher training programme. There are two graduate schools available, which include the Graduate School of Education and the Graduate School of Practitioner in Education.

A new masters course specialising in Japanese-style education has been developed for international students. This course provides a comparison of English and Japanese education and teaches international students the method of curriculum development unique to Japan. The university welcomes increasing numbers of international students every year as part of its academic exchange programme. This programme has only been made possible due to the university’s partnerships with 26 higher education institutes in 14 different countries.

Aichi is situated in the Chubu Region and is home to the Toyota Motor Corporation. It has therefore become an important hub in the Japanese automotive industry and is considered a major centre for technology and education. Although Aichi is an industrial and urbanised city, it is also known for its agriculture. In fact, 17 per cent of its total land area consists of natural parks and along its coast are a number of small islands and beaches.
