Azerbaijan University was established in 1991, as one of the first private universities in Azerbaijan. Its main building is a brutalist block in the capital city of Baku.
Degree courses are offered across four faculties: the faculty of business and economics; the faculty of humanities; the faculty of ICT; and the international magistrate and doctoral studies centre.
However, undergraduate courses are grouped into three speciality areas: computer engineering; business and economics; and social sciences.
The university student youth organisation ensures that students are active participants in the social, cultural and economic life of Azerbaijan. This involves encouraging talented students to take part in competitions and olympiads, within and outside Azerbaijan.
Students also organise conferences, seminars, festivals and discussion clubs. Their remit also includes working to prevent drug and alcohol addiction among students.
The university also offers study-abroad and student-exchange programmes.
