The Global Mobility Office is a student-facing and external-facing professional services team of eleven. This is an opportunity to join a small, close, centralised professional services team providing inbound and outbound study and work abroad lifecycle support and reporting, mobility partnership agreement negotiation and management, and administration of Erasmus, Turing and the Staff International Exchange Programme, in pursuance of the university’s Education and International strategies.

We are part of the Students & Education Directorate, a collection of wide-ranging professional services in place to support King’s students and their education. As a directorate we manage the student lifecycle from application to graduation and beyond, to ensure a coherent and seamless student experience and effective administrative processes, working closely with King’s faculties to do so. 

About The Role

The Global Mobility Officer (Increasing Opportunities) works with the Global Mobility Officer (Outgoing Student Support) and Global Mobility Senior Officer (Outgoing Students Co-ordinator) to facilitate King’s students spending a period abroad as part of their degree or as an extra-curricular opportunity. The role combines programme administration, student support and international relationship liaison. 

The Global Mobility Officer (Increasing Opportunities) has operational responsibility for a set of tasks and processes within the Global Mobility Office’s wider remit. They work within and across multiple teams at the university, engaging with a wide range of colleagues, and they contribute to activities which positively impact the student experience. This includes assisting with the planning, administration and delivery of outgoing study and work abroad opportunities; responding sensitively to student enquiries ensuring students experience consistent support pre-, during, and post-mobility; nominating and then supporting outgoing King’s students with their applications to partner universities and work placements, particularly those in Europe; troubleshooting and liaising as necessary with external organisations; and providing support for and contributing to widening outgoing mobility participation and funding administration as well as broader diversity and inclusion activities for under-represented cohorts.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About the opportunity

An opportunity has arisen for a research only position in health economics at the Menzies Centre for Health Policy and Economics within the School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health.

The Menzies Centre for Health Policy and Economics is the leading independent voice on health policy in Australia, they focus on improving public health outcomes through policy innovation and practical implementation. With a program of community engagement, the Centre encourages informed debate about how Australians can influence health policy to ensure that it is consistent with their values and priorities; policies that are able to deliver, safe, high-quality health care that is sustainable in the long term.

The University is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow (Level B) to contribute to the health economics research program, and join a growing team of health economics researchers, working in economic evaluation, economic modelling, discrete choice/ stakeholder preference analysis and quality of life/ wellbeing research across a range of different contexts. The incumbent will be based in the Moore College Building located on the Camperdown campus.

This is fixed term positions for 1 year initially. Although full time appointments are preferred, we would consider fractional appointments for the right candidate.

Your key responsibilities will be to:


	Make a significant contribution to the research and administrative endeavours of the Centre and the School
	participate in multi-disciplinary health economics and health policy research, with a focus on collecting and analysing health system data for use in economic evaluations and preference elicitation.

About you


	A PhD (awarded or submitted) in health economics, health services research, or related discipline
	demonstrated track record of peer reviewed publications in health economics, or a related area
	experience in contributing to a multidisciplinary research team in a health economics / health services research/ biostatistics related topic
	demonstrated experience in health economic methodologies such as microcosting, economic evaluation, economic modelling, conducting discrete choice experiments to elicit stakeholder preferences or quality of life research
	experience with data linkage projects to evaluate healthcare resource use and costs
	ability to work in a multidisciplinary academic environment, and independently as required, and preparedness to contribute more broadly to research programmes within the Centre and School
	excellent oral and written communication skills


Desirable


	success in being awarded an NHMRC personal support grant (or equivalent) and/or other Category 1-4 research grant as a Chief Investigator or Associate Investigator
	experience with postgraduate research student supervision.

About the job

We are searching for a creative, skilled, and ambitious candidate for our activities on nonlinear integrated photonics.

The candidate aims are to design, manufacture, and study photonic integrated optical amplifiers based on periodically poled thin-film lithium tantalate optical waveguides and their hybrid integration with high power pump laser diodes. The main focus is the establishment of advanced dispersion engineering workflows based on numerical simulations of optical waveguides and microresonators and the development of high power hybrid integration techniques in the photonics laboratory.

The goal of the research is to demonstrate breakthroughs in the efficiency and bandwidth of nonlinear optical amplification and frequency conversion systems towards their full photonic integration with high power pump lasers in package. The research will be performed at the Department of Electronic Systems, NTNU, and supported by scientific partners in Switzerland, Germany, France, and Italy.

The candidate will report to the Head of Department. The supervisor for this position is Associate Professor Johann Riemensberger

Duties of the position


	Development of novel photonic device concepts and architectures, and optical test and measurement methodologies.
	Development of nanofabrication processes in the NTNU Nanolab cleanroom.
	Photonic chip design, manufacturing, and optical testing.
	Collaborate with an international network of scientific partners.
	Report research findings in international conferences and scientific articles.
	Prepare funding applications for Fellowship grants such as NRC Mobility and MSC-IF.


Required selection criteria

The postdoctoral researcher position’s main objective is to qualify up-and-coming researchers for future leadership positions in academia. The qualification requirement is that you have completed a PhD degree in photonics, materials science, physics, electrical engineering, or nanotechnology (and other revelant disciplines) with focus on photonics and a strong scientific publication record.


	Strong oral and written competence in English language communication are required.


Preferred selection criteria


	Strong experimental and/or theoretical photonics, quantum optics, or nanotechnology background with a PhD in a relevant field.
	Experience with electromagnetic simulation software suites and photonic circuit design.
	Experience with standard nanofabrication processes.
	Strong documented scientific publication record.
	Ability to work outside of Norway for short exchange periods.

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 594 500 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund

The period of employment is 3 years.The tentative start date of the position is 1.2.2025

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

The Faculty of Science invites applications for a
GRANT FUNDED POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN CONSERVATION SCIENCE starting from November 2024 or as agreed. The Postdoctoral Researcher will receive a 2-year scholarship funded by the Kone foundation. This position is grant funded only; it does not establish an employment relationship with the University of Helsinki.

Position description

The successful applicant should contribute to one or more of the research themes of the project “The interplay between funding and governance factors in achieving sustainable conservation outcomes for protected areas in the tropics” financed by the Kone foundation. The principal investigator (PI) of the project is Associate Professor Johanna Eklund. The project aims to provide insight into what are the enabling factors needed to attain sustainable conservation outcomes for protected areas in the long term. The project will use expert elicitation techniques to engage with local stakeholders and experts and identify what they perceive as important in implementing successful conservation policies. The work will include identifying both remote factors (such as institutional constraints) and proximate factors (actions directly related to protected areas). The project uses novel attribution methods, previously not used in conservation science, to explore causalities. The analytical framework will build on a Qualitative Comparative Analysis – allowing to study how certain factors in their specific combinations with other factors influence an outcome and will require defining and framing the candidate conditions, their thresholds, and the truth tables of the method in collaboration with local protected area stakeholders and experts.

Responsibilities as a grant funded postdoctoral researcher

The appointed researcher will lead one of the planned working packages of the project and this will entail to design the data collection, conduct stakeholder focus groups and workshops, to analyze data using a Qualitative Comparative Analyses framework, and publish the findings in high level journals in the field. The position will require familiarity analyzing both qualitative and spatial quantitative data (GIS, focus groups, interviews, workshops), but the work will be supported by a part time research assistant.

Requirements and eligibility criteria

The postdoctoral researcher must have a doctoral degree in conservation science, geography, policy analysis, or a related field. It is expected that applicants have experience with mixed-methods and working with both qualitative and quantitative data and analysis. Previous experience with impact evaluation methods in conservation, and especially qualitative attribution methods is a merit. As the position will require leading one of the project work packages, excellent organizational, social, and collaborative skills are also required. Familiarity with different types of stakeholder engagement activities is considered a merit. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are also expected, and so is a track record of being able to publish scientific articles.
