The Position

ANU Research School of Biology is seek two Research Fellow to in a friendly, motivated team providing bioengineering solutions to solve global challenges. With no two days being the same, this role is integral to the delivery/support of critical resources relevant to future energy security.

The Person

We are looking for a Research Fellow to develop, test, and assess platform biotechnologies and engineered living systems to convert waste into valuable resources. Their work will focus on organisms and processes to enhance mineral breakdown and improve critical metal bioavailability, building an ecosystem for waste valorisation. We are looking for someone who likes challenging problems and encourages team members and colleagues to workshop effective solutions.

About the S.M.A.R.T. Construction Research Group

The S.M.A.R.T. Construction Research Group is a dynamic and interdisciplinary research group led by Prof. Borja García de Soto. The core topics of the S.M.A.R.T. Construction Research Group are Sustainable and resilient construction, Modularization and lean construction, Artificial intelligence, Robotic systems and automation, Technology integration and information modeling.

Qualifications

Applicants must have received a Ph.D. in civil engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related field. Expertise in ROS and simulation platforms is required. Additionally, candidates should have experience with ROS2 and be familiar with the development of AI models, large language models (LLMs), and the use of machine learning (ML) techniques. Excellent communication skills in English and scientific creativity are essential. The applicant should have a strong publication record and be capable of supporting grant writing and proposal development to secure funding for research initiatives. Furthermore, extensive experience in laboratory management and research operations, along with in-depth knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in laboratory environments, is required. The ideal candidate will also possess strong organizational skills, a deep understanding of the scientific research process, and the ability to foster a collaborative and innovative research environment.

Located at the Sydney Brain and Mind Centre, Camperdown Exciting opportunity to work on dementia genetics as part of the Social Functioning Modelling Team  Base Salary from $109,301 (pro-rata) + 17% superannuation    About the opportunity  The School of Medical Sciences are currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work as part of the new multidisciplinary Social Functioning Modelling team at the University of Sydney Brain and Mind Centre, led by Dr Carol Dobson-Stone and Professor Olivier Piguet. This team consists of 28 senior academics with wide-ranging expertise (e.g. basic science, clinical, neuroimaging, neuropsychology) from across the University of Sydney, who have a research interest in dementia, particularly frontotemporal dementia.  As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, you will work with Dr Carol Dobson-Stone at the Brain and Mind Centre to identify and characterise genetic contributors to frontotemporal dementia and related disorders. You will analyse whole-exome and whole-genome sequencing data from human DNA samples, perform genotype-phenotype analyses and assess the effect of disease gene variants, using molecular biological and mammalian cell culture techniques. You will be part of a lab that prioritises collaboration, openness, respect and encourages innovation. Opportunities exist to develop further research ideas through the supervision of research undergraduate and research postgraduate projects.    Your key responsibilities will be to:   process, analyse, and interpret samples/datasets from large cohorts   design, conduct, and troubleshoot experiments involving many optimisable variables   work both independently and collaboratively to meet project objectives  effectively time manage concurrent projects  publish manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals. Your personal sphere of play:

In the Department of Economic Sociology at the Faculty of Economics, Business and Statistics a position of a Research Associate (post doc) will be filled by March 1st, 2025. The position is limited to a four-year period, which can be extended by two years in case of a positive evaluation. The position holder is expected to develop their own research program in economic sociology – an area in sociology which addresses economic phenomena in societal contexts – including the acquisition of external funds as well as contributing to ongoing projects in the department. The department is looking for a personality who primarily engages in a quantitative, preferably experimental approach to research.

Your future tasks:

Your tasks will encompass research, teaching (according to the regulations of the collective agreement) and administration in the Department of Economic Sociology.

This is part of your personality:


	Completed doctoral/PhD studies in subject Sociology, Political Science, or closely related fields
	Outstanding dissertation
	Firm understanding of the collection and analysis of survey or experimental data and of the relevant statistical techniques, preferably documented by publications in peer-reviewed journals
	Use of experimental methods, a pertinent teaching record and international experience are of advantage.
	The teaching will cover courses regularly offered by the Department.

About the Job

We have a vacancy for a Researcher in Multiscale Characterization of Materials Exposed in Hydrogen Environments, at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. The position is funded by Horizon Europe and is a collaborative project with several academic and industrial partners. The position is a temporary position limited for 2 years. 

The accepted candidate will conduct research using a multiscale characterization approach to gain fundamental insights into hydrogen's interactions with metallic materials. Their contribution will serve as the basis to understand deformation of metallic alloys in hydrogen environments and for simulations for the partners associated with this Horizon Europe project. 

Duties of the position


	Work independently to collect, analyse, and report thorough data pertaining to materials structure and properties using a wide variety of experimental techniques, such as electron microscopy and atom probe tomography.
	Understand the deformation and mechanical performance of metallic materials in different environments by correlating microstructural observations with compositional alterations.
	Communicate results with project partners, participate at conferences and present at relevant conferences. 
	Jointly supervise master students. 


Required selection criteria


	You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree or a corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD. If you can document that the PhD thesis has been submitted, your application can be assessed even if you have not yet defended your dissertation. Documentation of the obtained doctoral degree must be presented before you can take up the position.
	You must have a professionally relevant background in metallurgy and/or materials science with a focus on metallic materials. 
	You must have hands-on experience in Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) while practical experience in conducting and analyzing EBSD data will be considered a plus. 
	You must have hands-on experience in Atom Probe Tomography (APT) and APT sample preparation by Focused Ion Beam. 
	You must have a basic understanding of the failure and deformation of metallic materials. 
	Hands-on experience with SEM, EBSD, FIB and APT, while experience with other characterization methods such as TEM will be considered a plus. 
	Fluent written and spoken English


Preferred selection criteria


	Experience in Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and TEM sample preparation will be considered a plus.
	Experience in hydrogen charging of metallic materials will be considered a plus.
	experience in steels will be considered a plus.
	Hands-on experience with SEM, EBSD, FIB and APT, while experience with other characterization methods such as TEM will be considered a plus. 
	Previous experience with hydrogen in metallic materials and/or hydrogen charging will be considered a plus.

Salary and conditions

The gross salary for the position of Researcher (code 1109) is normally remunerated depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 2 years and starting date is planned as soon as possible and no later than end of April 2025.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.

The position is subject to external funding.
