We are seeking an applicant with outstanding administrative skills to join our staff as an Executive Assistant. The role of an Executive Assistant encompasses the broad range of activities associated with an active University Academic Department. Reporting directly to the Head of Department, the successful candidate must be discreet, capable of dealing with confidential information and have excellent IT, organisational & communication skills. The position involves a significant amount of interaction with academic and administrative colleagues across the University, and also key stakeholders outside of Maynooth University. The person appointed will have experience of successfully completing concurrent tasks to challenging deadlines and will have demonstrated excellent attention to detail and accuracy in both their input and output.

Salary

Executive Assistant (2024): €30,213 – €46,450 p.a. (13 points)

Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.

About the Role

Located within the Centre for Mental Health Nursing (CentreMHN) in the Department of Nursing, School of Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne, this position will lead the Consumer Academic program to ensure the successful delivery of consumer perspective teaching, evaluation research and consultancies and provide consumer perspective leadership on the wider CentreMHN workplan and initiatives. This position will need to be able to coordinate a diverse team, bringing them together to produce the best outcomes.

The Consumer Academic Coordinator will lead academic projects focused on consumer perspective contributions to mental health nursing and interdisciplinary team practices and also on projects providing direct support to consumer workforce and practices. These projects may include: workforce training and curriculum design related to policy implementation, and competitive tendering for evaluation research of lived experience workforce initiatives and mental health nursing focussed practice initiatives. This position will have the opportunity to access academic supports, mentoring and professional development to support their success in the role. The Consumer Academic Coordinator will be a subject matter expert within the University community and have opportunities to work with a range of staff at all levels of the organisation.

Your responsibilities will include:


	Leading and coordinating diverse teams of professionals working on projects
	Managing health services research project from design to reporting
	Contributing to the development of the consumer perspective discipline and development of teaching and learning activities


Who We Are Looking For

Our ideal candidate is one who is not necessarily from a traditional academic background, but one with lived experience using public sector mental health services as a consumer, or experience with the inability to access services. You should have solid leadership traits and strong relationships within the consumer movement, demonstrating the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and work collaboratively.

You will ideally have at least three years of experience in one or more areas of consumer perspective work, such as mental health peer support practice, consumer consultancy, consumer advocacy, consumer teaching, or consumer research. Additionally, experience and skills in project management, including ensuring timely outputs, written reports, and supervising the work of others, are essential.

You will also have:


	Lived Expertise in the form of personal experience; deep discipline knowledge informed by consumer led research and teachings as well as collective knowledge of universal lived experiences
	Demonstrated critical/reflective thinking and writing skills, including an awareness of one’s own beliefs and recognising consumers’ multiple ways of understanding experiences
	Knowledge of and experience working in interdisciplinary teams, using co-production

Since 1999 the Centre for Mental Health Nursing has been a government funded academic centre within Nursing at the University of Melbourne. It exists to support and develop the Victorian mental health nursing workforce. The CentreMHN achieves this aim through collaborations with the Chief Mental Health Nurse and her office, mental health nurses in the sector, consumer academics and other academics in and beyond this University.

Since 2008 the qualifying degree in Nursing at The University of Melbourne has been a Master of Nursing Science and is open to graduates from a range of undergraduate degree programs. The Department also offers 8 specialist Graduate Certificate courses, 1 Graduate Diploma course and 4 Advanced Practice courses (including the Master of Advanced Nursing Practice Nurse-Practitioner).  There are 5 programs of research including: cancer, emergency and critical care, infant and child health, chronic disease and care across the lifespan and mental health. Doctoral Researchers for Finnish Doctoral Program Network in Artificial Intelligence (FCAI) 

The University of Helsinki is currently seeking to fill 64 three-year positions for doctoral researchers. These positions are part of a national initiative in doctoral education and are available within various doctoral education pilots. The appointments are set to commence on January 1, 2025. 

As a doctoral researcher at the University of Helsinki, you will conduct your doctoral research as part of an international scientific community under the guidance of top researchers in your field.  

Finnish Doctoral Program Network in Artificial Intelligence is launched in 2024 to build a world-class PhD program with quality supervision, mobility, and multi-disciplinarity as integral parts. The program is a joint effort of 10 Finnish universities and will educate 100 new PhDs in artificial intelligence research. Finland’s Ministry of Education and Culture has granted 25.5 million EUR to support the program.  

We are looking for prospective PhD students to work in the following research areas:  


	Fundamental AI  
	AI in Communications and Signal Processing  
	AI in Health  
	AI in Engineering  
	AI in Language and Speech Technology  
	AI in Society and Business  


Successful candidates should have previous experience in machine learning, statistics, artificial intelligence, or in another relevant field, demonstrated by success in related studies and ideally also by some publication record. Other merits demonstrating suitability for a researcher position can also be considered. Candidates should hold (or expect to shortly receive) a Master’s degree in computer science, statistics, electrical engineering, mathematics, or in another relevant field.  

The positions require the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment. The primary working language in the joint program activities is English, so good written and oral command of English is required.

Qualifications and Responsibilities 

We are looking for motivated candidates who have demonstrated their capabilities in previous studies and are committed to completing their doctoral degree within the targeted three-year timeframe. Your responsibilities will include conducting research for your dissertation and completing the doctoral degree according to the curriculum of the doctoral program. Additionally, you may be involved in teaching and other duties, accounting for up to 5% of your annual working time.

The selection process will consider: 


	Suitability of the research plan to the chosen pilot project 
	Quality and feasibility of the research plan within the three-year timeframe 
	Planned connections to the professional world and the significance of the position for the applicant's career after completing the doctoral degree 
	Feasibility of completing the dissertation within three years, as demonstrated in the supervision plan 


Additionally, we expect from all applicants:  


	Commitment to three years of intensive and full-time work  
	Strong motivation and previous evidence of the ability to achieve results and complete the project on schedule  
	Creativity along with the ability for analytical and conceptual thinking, a determined and independent work approach, collegiality, the ability to engage in constructive collaboration with others, and inspire others  
	Fluent oral proficiency in English and the ability to write scientific texts in English 
	The appointed doctoral researchers are expected to reside in Finland, though temporary research visits abroad are possible. If relocating, employment can only begin after arriving in Finland.
