The Position

ANU Research School of Biology is seek two Research Fellow to in a friendly, motivated team providing bioengineering solutions to solve global challenges. With no two days being the same, this role is integral to the delivery/support of critical resources relevant to future energy security.

The Person

We are looking for a Research Fellow to develop, test, and assess platform biotechnologies and engineered living systems to convert waste into valuable resources. Their work will focus on organisms and processes to enhance mineral breakdown and improve critical metal bioavailability, building an ecosystem for waste valorisation. We are looking for someone who likes challenging problems and encourages team members and colleagues to workshop effective solutions.

The Australian National University

United Kingdom, Southampton

We invite applications for a postdoctoral position to work on emerging low-dimension perovskite semiconductors in the Semiconductor Photophysics lab at the University of Southampton under supervision of Dr Silvia Motti. This is a fixed-term position available for up to 24 months. The contract is expected to start no later than spring 2025, with a negotiable start date.

The candidate must have a PhD* (or close to completion) or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Science. We are looking for a candidate with experience in advanced spectroscopy (building and maintaining optical setups, laser spectroscopy measurements, and interpretation of spectroscopic data). Experience in the fabrication, processing, and characterisation of perovskite semiconductors is desirable.

The position is funded by an EPSRC grant led by Dr Silvia Motti. The project aims to answer key questions regarding the structural, vibrational, and photophysical properties of these exciting new materials, and explore their applications in optoelectronic technologies. The Semiconductor Photophysics lab is part of the Quantum, Light & Matter group of the School of Physics and Astronomy at Southampton. The group has access to well-equipped laser spectroscopy laboratories and material fabrication facilities, including the state-of-the-art Zepler cleanrooms.

	Dynamic opportunity for a Clinical Research Fellow to join the Westmead Applied Research Centre, based at Westmead Hospital
	Base Salary $86,584 - $145,858 + 17% superannuation


About the opportunity

We are seeking a Clinical Research Associate (Level A) or Clinical Research Fellow (Level B) to drive clinical research in the Digital Health space at Westmead Applied Research Centre (WARC). In this role, you will primarily work on CARDIOCHARGE, an MRFF-funded national, multi-site implementation and evaluation of an evidence-based post-discharge Digital Health Intervention for patients after a hospitalisation for CVD. Additionally, you will contribute your research expertise to advance the capabilities of the Centre's outreach, specifically aiming to improve health outcomes of patients and integrate new procedures and policies in relation to patient discharge. You will work under broad supervision, independently planning and prioritising tasks to achieve research goals. As a subject matter expert, you will act as the first point of contact for your area of expertise, providing guidance and resolving routine issues while collaborating on more complex challenges. This position is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of their discipline and a proactive approach to research.

For Level A Research Associate (Research Only)


	Work closely with the team leader, researchers, chief investigators and key stakeholders to achieve project aims
	work independently and as part of a team to undertake activities related to the conduct of quantitative research including reviews of the scientific literature, the preparation of study protocols and related documentation, and the preparation and execution of data management and statistical analysis plans
	assist in all activities related to the conduct of the research, including the reviewing and updating of research protocols and related documents and coordinating data between various teams
	assist with undertaking administrative requirements of research project management
	assist in building and maintaining strategic relationships with internal and external collaborators, including clinicians and health-based staff


For Level B Research Fellow (in addition to the above)


	work independently and as part of a team to design, coordinate, execute and implement study protocols and procedures, including execution of complex analyses in accordance with study aims
	maintain a research profile, including preparation and publication of peer-reviewed journal articles, conference and seminar papers
	take an active role in the development and submission of funding applications
	independently develop and maintain a network of academic, and professional partners, internal and external stakeholders and collaborators
	engage in translational research and facilitate knowledge-sharing
	provide low level and informal mentoring/guidance to junior staff members and researchers as required


About you

For Level A Research Associate (Research Only)


	completion of a medical degree
	demonstrated experience developing and contributing to research evidence by producing original, high quality and independent research
	previous experience in health policy and procedures
	excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to liaise effectively with all levels of staff and stakeholders
	experience in the development of academic publications or report writing
	high-level organisational and time management skills, strong attention to detail, and a proven ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines


For Level B Research Fellow (in addition to the above)


	demonstrated experience conducting original research and coordinating all aspects of the research process including study design and implementation, analysis, reporting and write-up of study findings
	a research profile in a similar discipline or area of expertise
	highly developed data analysis skills and experience in health-related policy and research
	previous experience supervising and mentoring junior staff or researchers.

The Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (CTU), based at Southampton General Hospital, manages a growing portfolio of multi-centre clinical trials that will directly influence routine clinical practice.

We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Trial Managers to join the existing team. The post sits within the non-cancer group in the area of respiratory. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with previous clinical trials experience to join a CTU which has full registration status from the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC).

The Senior Trial Manager (Portfolio Lead) will be responsible for the oversight of a portfolio of respiratory trials ensuring they are delivered according to required standards, time and budget. These are senior posts within the CTU with advisory, leadership and line management responsibilities. They will be required to work with multiple stakeholders so must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and be a good leader and line manager.

The successful candidates will have experience of trial coordination and/or management gained through working on interventional clinical trials, including mixed methods and conducting trials in either secondary or primary care or other research naïve environments. They should have excellent knowledge of GCP and governance relating to trials and other well designed studies.

The employing organisation is the University of Southampton which offers a competitive salary, pension scheme, generous holiday entitlement and other benefits. The post is offered on a one year fixed term contract in the first instance with the possibility of an extension.

Finland

The Nonlinear Systems and Control group (https://www.aalto.fi/en/department-of-electrical-engineering-and-automation/nonlinear-systems-and-control) at Aalto University explores synergies between nonlinear control theory and physics informed machine learning to provide formal guarantees on performance, safety, and robustness of robotic and learning-enabled systems. The research group is seeking a talented PhD student with strong interest in nonlinear stability theory, modeling & identification, optimal control, certifiably safe & robust control, and learning for dynamics & control.

The main task of the PhD student will be to develop sound data-driven methodologies for learning control policies with provable guarantees on performance and safety, for example, through the efficient computation of Lyapunov and barrier functions, forward and backward reachable sets, optimal value functions etc. The broad goal is to build upon recent developments in learning Operator Theoretic representations of dynamical systems that focus on model interpretability, scalability to high dimensions, and data efficiency. The exact direction of the research is chosen depending on your experience and interests. Please relate clearly to some of the research topics in your Letter of Motivation.

Outstanding researchers from the areas of Control Engineering, Robotics, Machine Learning, AI, and related areas including Optimization, Mathematics and Physics are welcome to apply. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate with the vibrant Aalto research community, including the Intelligent Robotics group and the Mobile Robotics group, as well as the Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence.
