Fleming College, also known as Sir Sandford Fleming College, is located in Peterborough, Ontario.
It was established in 1967 and was named after the Scottish-born engineer and inventor Sandford Fleming, perhaps best known for his contributions to the concept of Universal Standard Time, and who was knighted in 1897 by Queen Victoria.
There are 6,800 full-time and 10,000 part-time students studying some 100 programmes. These include arts and heritage; business, environmental and natural resource sciences; general arts and sciences; health and wellness; justice and community development, skilled trades and technology and continuing education.
It is also known for its courses in environmental and natural resources sciences and unique programmes in business, museum management and cultural heritage and social services.
The main campus of Fleming College is the Sutherland Campus, which features athletic sports fields, state-of-the-art teaching facilities, residence buildings, the Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre and green space. It is not far from downtown Peterborough.
Other campuses are located in Cobourg, Haliburton (Haliburton School of Art and Design), and Lindsay (Frost Campus).
The Frost Campus is close to Lindsay’s historic downtown in City of Kawartha Lakes. Surrounded by rivers, lakes and green space, it is home to one of Canada’s leading environmental institutions. The campus is a living, learning lab for students and includes many green features: community and pollinator gardens, arboretum; green roof; apiary; wind turbine; geothermal heating and cooling system; and a constructed wetland for waste treatment.
