The Institute of Engineering and Management is based in Kolkata, India.
IEM’s courses – predominantly focused on IT and engineering – employ flipped learning. This technique involves students learning about a topic before the class, using videos and lecture notes. In the class itself, students work on applying the topic to different situations – which IEM believes helps prepare them better for industry.
IEM has signed a memoranda of understanding with Harvard Business School, and uses Harvard study material and content in its own courses.
All students participate in at least three internships during their degree. IEM says that for the last 30 years, every one of its eligible graduates has received an average of one or two job offers.
Students tend to pursue their interests in their own time, as well as during study time – IEM has a very active chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery, as well as a society of data science and a society of physics students.
For when they want to switch off from work, there is also a dance club, sports club and music club.
