The Department has vacancies for the posts of Assistant Professor of Teaching. The appointees are expected to contribute to high quality teaching.

General Requirements

Applicants should have a PhD degree in Accountancy or a related discipline and must demonstrate excellent teaching record. The appointees are expected to teach a variety of subjects including law in business and other accounting functional courses, such as managerial and financial accounting. The successful candidates should maintain the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) qualification through producing peer reviewed journal publications or other intellectual contributions, engaging in professional development activities, responsible for curriculum development, and student advising and mentoring. The appointees are also expected to help the Department to maintain good relationship with professional bodies and business, reach out business by knowledge transfer, as well as to liaison with professional bodies to obtain (re)accreditation status of our accounting program(s).

Appointment

The conditions of appointments will be competitive. The remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointees. Appointments will normally be made on a fixed-term contract of up to three years.

Lingnan University

Lammi Biological Station is one of three research stations in the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Helsinki, along with Tvärminne Zoological Station and Kilpisjärvi Biological Station. At the station, research, teaching and meeting activities are year-round. The station serves the entire university.

Lammi Biological Station of the University of Helsinki applies for its service:

LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

for fixed-term employment 3.3.-31.12.2025. Lammi Biological Station laboratory conducts water analyses from natural waters to the university's own long-term studies, research projects, course needs, and commissioned studies for all customers.

The laboratory technician's duties include preparation of water samples, laboratory analyses, result verification and delivery of analysis results, filing, compilation of billing information, and tasks related to quality control of the laboratory. Laboratory technicians are expected to have knowledge of the following analyses: nutrient analyses (P and N), pH, turbidity, conductivity, alkalinity, color, oxygen, CODM, chlorophyll. Advantage is the experience of carbon and cation determinations, or other laboratory special skills.

The task is suitable for a careful and accurate employee with experience in laboratory work. The task requires an independent and responsible approach. The position requires good Finnish or English language skills, as well as basic IT skills. The training of a laboratory analyst, for example, provides good preparation for the task. The work will start on 3 March 2025 or by agreement. Lammi Biological Station Laboratory is a peaceful working environment, where the responsibilities and job description of the announced position are clear. There is possibility for affordable accommodation options within the Lammi Biological Station.

The salary of the position is based on the salary system of the universities and the total salary is c. 2400-3200 €/month depending on the experience and education of the person to be selected.

About the Role

This position will be employed as part of the newly awarded ARC Linkage grant, titled "Secure Management of Internet of Things Data for Critical Surveillance," with RMR Process Pty Ltd as the industry partner. This position will primarily be responsible for designing, implementing, and testing sensing, monitoring, and information systems for industry applications. While a PhD degree is not required, this position should have industry experience in integrating sensing, secure networking, data management, and data visualisation systems and a good understanding of industry needs. Extensive publications are not necessary, but a few in reputable venues (e.g., A* conferences/journals) are desirable.

About You

Essential criteria


	Industry Experience: Demonstrated industry experience in managing, building, and testing large-scale distributed computing systems (e.g. Edge, IoT, I4.0), evidenced by involvement in several industry projects.
	Technical Experience:  exposure to Python, JavaScript, Node-Red, Ladder Logic, Structured Text, or equivalent, knowledge of AWS and other cloud technologies, knowledge of PostgreSQL, Grafana, and other database and dashboard systems, knowledge of MQTT, OPC UA and other industrial communication protocols, basic electronics and sensor integration.
	Work Ethic: A strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and as part of a broader team, including collaboration with industrial partners.
	Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills suitable for interacting with higher-degree research candidates, staff, and industry partners, coupled with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration.


Desirable criteria


	Research Experience: Proven research experience in sensor networks or I4.0 systems, demonstrated by a few top-tier publications. The candidate should have minimal publications in lower-rate conferences and journals, with preference for A*-rated venues.
	Research Track Record: An emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs in sensing, information, and data management systems, including developing new research initiatives, securing competitive research funding, and establishing industry links.


Qualifications: An undergraduate/postgraduate in Computer Science/Engineering related field is desirable

As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.

The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an applied research project as a part of Infocomm Technology cluster at SIT. In this role, you will be part of the research team, working to develop and evaluate privacy-preserved Generative AI algorithms for generating synthetic Personal Identity Information (PII). This aims to overcome the issues raised by using real-world PII data.

Key Responsibilities:


	Participate in and manage the research project with the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
	Design a Natural Language Processing algorithm for identifying Personal Identity Information data.
	Design and evaluate privacy preserved Generative AI-based algorithm for generating synthetic data.
	Validate integrated system functionality and performance.
	Help produce progress reports and technical papers on research work.
	Ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
	Assist in project resource requirements and managing student projects.


Job Requirements:


	Have a PhD Degree in Computer Engineering/Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
	Have relevant research/industry experience in Machine Learning, AI and Privacy.
	An excellent team player who can cope with an agile and fast-paced environment.
	Good communication and interpersonal skills.
	Possess relevant hands-on experience in Python, Java, C++ etc. and corresponding development environments.
