JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mauritius is part of a group of institutions named for Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri, the 24th pontiff of Sri Suttur Math, a sacred pilgrim centre in Karnataka, India. The pontiffs of the Math, which are more than 1,000 years old, have historically devoted themselves to the spiritual and educational development of people of all religions.
It was established in 2018, as a copy of its parent institution the JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research in Mysore, India. It offers degrees across three faculties: health sciences; life sciences; and management studies. A quarterly newsletter allows students the opportunity to publish academic articles.
The university occupies a verdant eight-acre campus, which includes state-of-the-art laboratories. On-campus single-sex residential hostels provide remarkably spacious individual rooms – and even shared rooms come with a dividing screen that guarantees privacy. There are also sports facilities for volleyball, basketball, football and indoor games.
