The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is an independent, coeducational, private research university based in the city of Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Established in 1861, MIT aims to ‘further knowledge and prepare students in science, technology and other fields of study that will best benefit the nation and the world today’. Its motto is Mens et Manus, which translates as “Mind and Hand”.

The university lays claim to 85 Nobel Laureates, 58 National Medal of Science winners, 29 National Medal of Technology and Innovation winners and 45 MacArthur Fellows. Among its impressive alumni is Kofi Annan, former secretary-general of the United Nations.

Scientific discoveries and technological advances accredited to MIT include the first chemical synthesis of penicillin, the development of radar, the discovery of quarks, and the invention of magnetic core memory, which enabled the development of digital computers.

MIT is currently organised into five different schools: architecture and planning, engineering, humanities, arts and social sciences, management and science.

It is home to around 1,000 faculty members and over 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students. MIT’s current areas of research include digital learning, sustainable energy, Big Data, human health and much more.

In addition to its emphasis on innovation and entrepreneurship, MIT also boasts a diverse and vibrant campus environment with a wide array of student groups. The campus is arranged over 168 acres within Cambridge, and features 18 student residences, 26 acres of playing fields, 20 gardens and green-space areas, as well as over 100 public works of art.

MIT estimates that all its living alumni have between them launched more than 30,000 active companies, created 4.6 million jobs and generated roughly $1.9 trillion in annual revenue.

Taken together, this ‘MIT Nation’ is equivalent, they say, to the 10th-largest economy in the world.

As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The primary responsibility of this role is to support and contribute to an industry innovation research project. The Research Engineer will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI, and the research team to develop deep learning-based computer vision algorithms and software for object detection, classification, and segmentation. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project together with the PI, Co-PI, and research team to ensure timely achievement of project deliverables. Undertake the following specific responsibilities in the project: i. Develop, train, and optimise deep learning models for object detection, classification, and segmentation using real-world datasets. ii. Design and implement software modules to integrate the models into a working system prototype. iii. Perform data annotation. iv. Conduct experiments, analyse results, and iterate models for improved accuracy and efficiency. v. Prepare project documentation, technical reports, and academic publications. vi. Collaborate with industry partners and contribute to technology transfer efforts. Job Requirements Possess strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience in: Deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) Deep learning models (e.g., YOLO, U-Net, EfficientNet, ResNet, FPN, Fast R-CNN) Computer vision techniques and algorithms Python and relevant libraries (e.g., PyQt, OpenCV, NumPy, scikit-learn), particularly for developing Windows desktop application software incorporating deep learning models Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic/Software Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s or PhD degree in relevant areas will be advantageous. Familiarity with the following areas is advantageous: Participation in Kaggle competitions, showcasing practical problem-solving and model development skills Model deployment (e.g., ONNX, TensorRT) Edge computing or embedded vision systems (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson Nano) Real-time processing and GPU acceleration Experience working on industry R&D projects Key Competencies Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with team members, stakeholders, and external partners Self-motivated and committed to continuous learning and improvement Proficient in technical writing & presentation, research reporting, and academic publication Possess strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills Demonstrate initiative and ownership in carrying out tasks independently

We aim to drive the transition toward a circular and green economy in Morocco and across Africa through innovative material science. Job description An exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) to join the Sustainable Materials Research Center (SusMat-RC) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P). The selected candidate will contribute to a pioneering research project focused on developing advanced bioinspired, circular-economy-driven biobased functional materials for sustainable agriculture, with a specific focus on water–soil interfaces, water retention, fertilizer/nutrient-controlled release, and soil hydration using multi-source biomass feedstocks.  Job duties The successful candidate is expected to: Design, formulate, and characterize biobased materials such as hydrogels, polymers, and composites for agricultural applications. Develop and optimize protocols for the encapsulation and controlled release of nutrients. Investigate water-use efficiency, soil moisture dynamics, and nutrient availability in water-retentive and responsive systems, with relevance to arid and semi-arid agricultural conditions. Utilize a variety of analytical, spectroscopic, and microscopic techniques (FTIR, UV–Vis, XRD, DLS, SEM–EDS, TEM, TGA/DSC) for material characterization. Collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary team. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all experiments, data, and findings. Prepare manuscripts for high-impact scientific journals and present research at national and international conferences. Contribute to the development of research proposals and seek external funding. Assist in the supervision of master's and doctoral students. Requirements To be considered for this role, ideal candidate is expected to have: A recently awarded Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field. Demonstrated hands-on experience in polymer/hydrogel synthesis, biopolymer modification, development of water-retentive formulation, and characterization. Experience or strong interest in sustainable agriculture, controlled-release systems, soil science interfaces, or water management in water-limited environments is an advantage. Proven ability to conduct independent research with a strong publication record. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team. High degree of motivation, initiative, and a focus on quality research outputs. Proficient oral and written communication skills in English. Lead or co-lead innovative applied research and industry collaboration projects with industry partners. Secure and manage research grants to support and develop applied research initiatives that strengthen Singapore’s food innovation, food manufacturing capabilities, and ingredient application sectors. Supervise and mentor students in applied research projects and Capstone Projects in food formulation, product design and product commercialisation. Qualifications: A PhD in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Product Development, Food Formulation, or a closely related discipline. Demonstrated expertise in food formulation, ingredient functionality, product development and/or applied food innovation. Strong aptitude for applied research, with the ability to apply new knowledge into practical solutions for real-world food industry challenges. Ability to teach, mentor, and supervise students in applied, hands-on, project-based and practice-oriented learning environments. Good understanding of the interrelationship between ingredients, processing, product quality, sensory attributes, nutrition, stability, cost and manufacturability. The following are desirable: Relevant industry experience in food product development, applications, technical service, formulation, innovation or manufacturing support.
