About us

In April 2024, IoPPN, King’s College London led the establishment of a national disseminated population mental health consortium, as part of a UKRI funded population health improvement initiative (Population Health Improvement UK- PHIUK). This post will be situated in Department of Psychological Medicine, at IoPPN (Denmark Hill campus), London (KCL) and will work across this partnership. The consortium spans 10+ universities and non-academic partnerships including local government and public health. The consortium challenges areas include children and young people’s mental health, the prevention of self harm and suicide and multiple long-term conditions. In addition cross-cutting areas include: policy, practice and lived experience, data and methods, training and capacity building and inequalities. This role will be based with the central coordinating team at KCL, working alongside the Consortium Co-Director, and will support successful delivery of the programme.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher, with a strong background in public health and mental health research and epidemiology, and with expertise in quantitative and qualitative methods, to develop a programme of work examining upstream social determinants of mental health. You will work closely with the Co-Director of the consortium (Prof Das-Munshi) to oversee and lead research within the initiative and take on a leadership role, helping to coordinate and lead research activities, to ensure successful delivery of this national initiative.

You will have expertise in public health and in mental health research. Experience across a range of data sources (eg. Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Surveys, UK birth cohorts, health records including CPRD) and linked data would be an advantage, as would an understanding of quantitative and qualitative methods. You will work closely with our non-academic partners, which include Thrive-LDN, and you may have an understanding of theory of change and other methodologies commonly used in these sectors.

The population mental health consortium will be establishing a training programme and the postholder will be expected to work with this platform to share learning across the wider membership and inform the development of training materials.  Dependent on your prior experience, you may be supported to line manage more junior staff and be expected to work with peers in the consortium leading research and impact initiatives, as well as chairing meetings. Applicants earlier in their career will be supported to work towards this.

The postholder will be supported to develop their academic career, including through fellowship applications and other grant applications to external research funders (led by the applicant or others in the team), and will be encouraged to explore collaborations with others. The postholder will receive research and wider professional skills development through local Early Career Researcher Networks and the College’s wider training programme.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31 March 2028.

The successful applicant will need to be able to be based on location (Denmark Hill campus, IoPPN) for at least 3 days a week.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria


	PhD in a relevant discipline (public health, epidemiology, etc.)
	Evidence of previous research in mental health
	Experience of working with quantitative data (eg. national surveys, cohorts, health records), and/ or mixed methods research
	Excellent project management, time management, communication  and presentation skills
	Good knowledge of population mental health and health inequalities
	Ability to work collaboratively with non-academic partners (public health, local government) and people with lived experience


To be considered for the Research Fellow post in addition to the above, you must demonstrate:


	Evidence of previous research in mental health at postdoctoral level or good knowledge of population mental health and health inequalities
	Track record of first authored publications in high impact journals.
	Evidence of attracting grant funding and/ or assisting in application for substantial grant funding


Desirable criteria


	Track record of publications in peer reviewed scientific journals
	Experience of working across policy/ public health/ voluntary sectors and/ or people with lived experience
	Experience of supervising researchers and students and/ or delivering seminars, presentations or training to diverse audiences.
	Experience of presenting mental health/ public health research (academic and non-academic audiences)


Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered for the Grade 6 post. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.

Role Description

We welcome applications for this exciting permanent academic post from passionate Aircraft Design specialists to join our highly successful Centre for Aeronautics Aircraft Design Group who want to make a significant impact in shaping, and the future direction, of our Centre’s portfolio of research, design and consultancy activities in the areas of airframe systems design and integration in addition to, general aircraft design, and flying demonstrator design.  We teach students on the popular MSc in Aerospace Vehicle Design.

About the Role

You will be responsible for the development and delivery of high-quality teaching at postgraduate level in airframe systems design and integration and world leading research in areas of interest relevant to future aerospace industry requirements.  Our academics are supported and encouraged to build their research teams and wider networks through successful research funding applications. The role is challenging and involves planning, integrating and coordinating diverse responsibilities in research, consultancy, project management, teaching and research student supervision. 

About You

For this opportunity, we are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced individual, and actively encourage applicants from industry (aerospace) or those with related industry experience who wish to develop their career in an environment which provides a greater degree of personal autonomy with respect to research activities than is commonly found in an industrial environment.  Experience of high impact, cross-disciplinary and industrially relevant research will be advantageous. At the Senior Lecturer level, we expect the candidate to provide leadership, such as in course management, business development, preparing large funding bids, acting as a Principal Investigator on large, funded research projects and managing collaborative networks of researchers linked with industry. 

You will be educated to doctoral level in a relevant subject or have equivalent extensive industry experience.  With a track record and solid experience of R&D related to Aircraft design or systems together with evidence of collaborative working with other discipline specialists, you will also have the ability to develop business opportunities and attract income.

With excellent communication & influencing skills, you will ideally have teaching experience at postgraduate level and professional development courses.  Highly computer literate, expertise in MATLAB would be ideal.

Description

The Robotics and Intelligent Systems Control Laboratory (RISC) at New York University Abu Dhabi invites applicants to apply for the open Research Engineer position to develop specialized Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).

RISC invites qualified applicants in the areas of electrical, computer, or mechanical engineering to apply.

The successful applicant will primarily develop specialized UAVs and Uncrewed Ground Vehicles (UGVs) and integrate within the on-board computer sensors and actuators. This position will enhance the operational capabilities of the developed UAVs and UGVs so that they can fly and move at air and/or ground. Safety features including redundant autopilots, RGB-D cameras, parachute, GPS-RTK, HD-video transmission, and large distance communications will be provided to the successful applicant for this platform.

Applicants must have a Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or closely related fields. Experience with embedded systems, mechatronics, or robotics are required. Work with autonomous robots and competency in Robot Operating Systems, Ardupilot, Solidworks, or Gazebo Physics Engine Simulator are preferred.

About RISC:

The Robotics & Intelligent Systems Control Laboratory (RISC Lab) at New York University Abu Dhabi focuses on perception, control, and planning in primarily autonomous robots. Our vision is to realize fully capable aerial workers, delivery systems, and collaborative autonomous agents as well as focus on medical applications.

Active research areas include distributed mapping and localization for autonomous agents, cooperative area coverage and mapping, design and implementation of surgical robotic solutions, collaborative flight of physically connected aerial vehicles, cooperative aerial manipulation, and autonomous ground & aerial package transportation and delivery. RISC Lab operates in two research spaces, the office space located in A1-005, and the Kinesis workspace B2.C3.029.E in collaboration with the Core Technology Platform of NYUAD. The Kinesis workspace includes a large experimentation arena, equipped with a state-of-the-art, 24-camera motion capture system, for large-scale indoor experiments.
