About Mount Saint Mary's University
Basic information and contact details for Mount Saint Mary's University
Mount Saint Mary’s University (MSMU) was established in 1925 by the Sisters of St Joseph of Carondelet, a French Catholic sisterhood. The University is open to students of all faiths.
The university was founded as a women’s college and remains a predominantly female institution, and the majority of the university leadership are women.
MSMU offers more than 30 majors across a comprehensive spectrum of subjects. The most popular for undergraduates are nursing, pre-nursing, psychology, business, biology, sociology, pre-health and liberal arts.
California’s first Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing was offered at MSMU, and it continues a strong tradition of teaching in nursing to this day. Nursing is the one field for which men are allowed to apply as undergraduates.
The university focuses on developing its students as leaders through initiatives such as an annual leadership conference and a student leadership boot camp.
Student organisations at MSMU range from ballet to business. Responsible citizenship and community engagement are key values which the university attempts to instill in students, and there are numerous volunteering opportunities on offer.
MSMU has two campuses in Los Angeles. The Chalon campus, where undergraduate studies are based, is located in the scenic Brentwood neighbourhood, near to the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Monica Mountains. The Doheny campus is a historic site just outside the city. Graduate and adult learning programmes take place in this green space.
