Established in 1990, Mykolas Romeris University is the largest university in Lithuania to specialise in social sciences.

The university has two campuses, one in Vilnius and the other in Kaunas. Vilnius is the capital and largest city of Lithuania. It is situated in the southeast of the country and is home to Lithuania’s national government. Kaunas is the second largest city in Lithuania and boasts a number of cultural landmarks including Kaunas Castle and the House of Perkūnas.

There are four faculties within the university: law school, public security academy, faculty of human and social sciences, and the faculty of public governance and business. These faculties offer a range of degree programmes at bachelors, master’s and doctoral level.

The university was the first in Lithuania to introduce a joint studies programme with universities in France, Austria and Finland. It has also developed partnerships with higher education institutions in South Korean, Japan, China and India.

In 2015 the Social Innovations Laboratory Network was established in order to facilitate the latest social, humanitarian and technological research. The network consists of 16 laboratories, as well as the Research and Innovation Support Centre. There are more than 600 scientists and researchers who work across the laboratories.

On average, the university participates in about 50 national and international research projects a year.

We are seeking a highly accomplished and strategic legal professional to join our senior team as the Director of Legal Services. This pivotal role provides strategic leadership and management for the University of Surrey’s legal function, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, timely, and business-focused legal advice across the full range of university activity. You will be instrumental in developing legal processes and systems, overseeing the delivery of legal services, and managing crucial relationships with external legal advisers to support our ambitious global strategy. The role Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Legal Services will deliver expert legal advice on employment law, student related matters, commercial and IT contracts, procurement, subsidiary governance, data protection, charity law, and operational property matters. The postholder will balance legal risk and regulatory obligations with institutional priorities, providing clear, pragmatic direction on complex issues, ultimately ensuring that there is robust legal compliance across the University and its subsidiaries. The role holds significant institutional accountability as the University’s most senior legal adviser, and is responsible for ensuring that all legal, regulatory, and contractual risks are appropriately identified, managed, and escalated. The postholder will deliver expert advice on routine commercial and operational matters, as well as supporting major institutional projects, including transnational education partnerships and overseas campus developments. About you We are looking for a qualified solicitor or barrister with demonstrable experience providing legal advice at senior or executive level. You will have a strong understand of legal frameworks relevant to higher education, charities or the public sector – this may include knowledge of the Higher Education and Research Act, Office for Students regulation, charity law and/or public procurement.  The ideal candidate will be highly skilled in drafting and reviewing comprehensive governance frameworks, policies, and terms of reference, demonstrating a robust technical understanding of both risk management and governance frameworks, coupled with a deep understanding of the governance implications arising from major partnerships, collaborations, and commercial ventures.  The role requires high-level autonomous decision making and expert problem solving in a complex and rapidly evolving regulatory environment - the successful candidate will be expected to interpret ambiguous legislation and must be confident making informed judgements and finding solutions where precedent may be limited or non-existent. Telecom Research Unit The Telecommunications Research Unit (TRU) at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is a world-class research team advancing telecommunications systems, infrastructure, and workforce capability in Australia and beyond. Within the TRU, the National Telecommunications Resilience Centre (NTRC) focuses on strengthening the resilience and reliability of critical telecommunications and emergency-call networks. Together, the TRU and NTRC collaborate with major industry partners such as NBN Co (through the ASTRID partnership) and Amplitel Australia, delivering applied research in areas including fibre and mobile network deployment, AI-based tower monitoring, digital twins, and emergency communications across multiple operators. Their research spans across broadband and mobile network performance, next generation 5G/6G systems, network resilience, and cybersecurity. With strong engagement with industry and government, significant applied and fundamental research programs, the TRU and NTRC provide PhD candidates with a dynamic environment to contribute to high-impact research shaping the future of telecommunications. About the role  We are seeking multiple outstanding PhD candidates with strong backgrounds in telecommunications, AI, and networking to join the Telecommunications Research Unit (TRU) and the National Telecommunications Resilience Centre (NTRC) at UTS. Candidates will conduct fundamental and theoretical research in areas such as 6G and beyond communications, network intelligence and optimisation, resilient network architectures, and AI-driven telecommunications systems. These positions offer the opportunity to work with world-leading researchers in a dynamic, globally recognised environment advancing the frontiers of communications engineering. Furthermore, through the research conducted in our programs, the students may also get exposure or work on industry projects, with potential future employment opportunities. Research areas of interest include: Next-generation wireless communication systems (5G, 6G and beyond) AI, machine learning, and data-driven approaches to network design and optimisation Network resilience, reliability, and fault-tolerant architectures Edge, cloud, and distributed network intelligence Theoretical modelling and performance analysis of communication systems Key Selection Criteria:  A Master’s degree (research-based) in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. Experience in theoretical modelling and simulation of communication systems. In-depth understanding of SIP signalling, emergency call systems, AI-driven telecommunications solutions, and network resiliency techniques. Familiarity with telecommunications standards, including 3GPP and other relevant industry frameworks. In-depth knowledge of telecommunication protocols such as BGP, OSPF, MPLS, etc. Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, the TCP/IP stack, network analysis, troubleshooting, and optimization. Expertise in AI/ML techniques, including deep learning, graph neural networks, and transformer models for optimizing network performance and resilience. A track record of high-quality research, with publications in reputable journals (e.g., IEEE Transactions) and/or IEEE Conferences. The Canada Impact+ Research Chairs will advance ambitious and transformative projects, build and maintain exceptional research teams, and collaborate with partners across sectors and borders. Impact+ chairholders are expected to drive the translation of discoveries into applications, commercialization and social and economic benefits for Canada and the world. Awarded Chairs are valued at either $500,000 or $1 million CAD per year for a period of 8 years, including salaries and benefits for the Chairholder and their personnel. There is a potential for approved renewals for an additional 4 years at 50% of the award value.
