Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellows in photonics and optoelectronics in the Department of Physics (Ref.: 531285), to commence as soon as possible for 12 months, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Physics, or relevant areas. Those with experience in optoelectronic devices, nanophotonics, and nanofabrication are welcome to apply. The appointees will work with Prof. Shuang Zhang to pursue research in nanophotonic devices. A competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.

About the opportunity

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a)   teach subjects relating to Economics or related disciplines, and undertake related pedagogical activities at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels;

(b)   contribute to programme/curriculum design, development and administration, and engage actively in scholarly activities;

(c)   provide support for academic and departmental affairs; and

(d)   perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of School or her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a)   a PhD degree in Economics;

(b)   good subject knowledge, skills and competence in the appropriate academic or professional discipline;

(c)   a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and professional service; and

Conditions of Service

The role will be an administrative role, covering the Wessex Lane Reception and responding to student enquiries, post and key provision and delivering excellent customer services. This Customer Service Assistant position offers the opportunity to provide excellent service throughout the day and in to the evening for students, residents and other customers who interact with our services. You will be calm under pressure and have a commitment to providing excellent customer service at every touchpoint, whilst supporting the ongoing development and improvement projects for our customer facing areas. As an excellent communicator and multi-tasker, you will also play a part in providing valuable support to the supervisory team at the Wessex Lane Halls of Residence both within and outside of reception. 

To ensure the smooth running of our service you will need to work in close partnership with colleagues in the Student Wellbeing, the Residences Lifecycle team, Security and others that collectively provide a 24/7 support to students in Halls. You will also need to collaborate with other departments within the University and external contractors who deliver services within our Halls of Residence. 

The successful candidate will be able to evidence experience of working within a busy and diverse customer service environment. We are looking for an approachable and organised character with excellent communication skills. You will need to be confident working within a team, and customer service skills across any industry could well be an advantage. The department uses multiple computer systems to deliver its services therefore experience using multiple systems is essential.

This position is currently being advertised for 36-hours per week, on a Monday-Friday rota working between the hours of 8am and 8pm on a rotational basis. You will also be expected to be available for occasional weekend/evening work to support peak activity times during the academic year such as student arrivals/departure events and open days.

A unique opportunity for individual to join as a Senior Anatomy Technician in the Medical School at the University of Surrey. This role provides technical support to the teaching and research areas in the Anatomy facilities within the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences.

You’ll provide technical support to academic and research staff and Undergraduate Students during the teaching sessions & lab placements.

Role & Responsibilities

You’ll also need to be physically fit and able to assist with the preparation, delivery and clear up of anatomy teaching classes. You’ll need to have experience in HTA compliance, protocols and procedures and have experience of being a person designate on a HTA Anatomy licence.

Other responsibilities include:


	Liaising with internal and external stakeholders such as the London Anatomy Office for the provision of cadavers and cadaveric parts.
	To lead the organisation and set up of the anatomy facility for scheduled teaching sessions and external course providers using the facility,
	To receive, prepare and embalm donors arriving at the facility, and prepare and process fresh frozen cadavers when required.
	To assist academic staff and clinical anatomy demonstrators in the creation of prosecutions for teaching purposes.
	To ensure human material is stored safely and dignity and respect of donors is maintained at all times.
	maintaining HTA Standards applicable to all licensable activities carried out within the facility.


The role may require a significant amount of manual handling and an ability to adapt to changes in the workload at peak times. You must be able to work independently and have good time management skills.
