Polisi University, in the Albanian capital of Tirana, brands itself as a space for thinking about spatial development policies. What this means in practice is that it offers a focused range of design-related degrees, in subjects such as art and design, architecture, urban planning and engineering and technology.
Polis offers three-year undergraduate degrees in art-design, civil engineering, environmental studies, computer science and business administration. In addition, it offers two five-year integrated bachelor’s and master’s degrees, in architecture and urban design, and in urban planning and management.
The primary language of instruction is Albanian. However, the university is becoming increasingly internationalised and has recruited a number of foreign academics. As a result, its second official language is now English.
Student clubs include opportunities to meet professionals in fields of interest. There are also a range of sporting activities available, including aerobics, volleyball and basketball, as well as a Polis football league. There are also music, photography and charitable-fundraising societies, and a “Walking the city” club organises walks through Tirana’s pedestrianised areas.
