Founded in Iraqi Kurdistan in 2018, Qaiwan International University was originally a franchise of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. In 2022, it added new degree programmes, franchised by Malaysia’s Universiti Teknologi MARA.
QIU’s degrees are offered across five faculties: dentistry; pharmacy; engineering and computer science; health sciences; and management and social sciences. Lecturers are drawn from Kurdistan, Iraq and further afield.
A partnership with technology manufacturer Huawei has resulted in the Huawei ICT Academy. This provides QIU students access to courses on topics such as big data, cloud computing and cybersecurity.
There is also a postgraduate pedagogy centre, providing courses in teaching and education.
QIU offers exchange programmes with its affiliate universities in Malaysia.
