Rivers State University was established in 1980 in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
At its foundation, it was Nigeria’s first technical university, and the first public state university in the Niger Delta region of the country.
The main language os instruction is English.
The main campus is in the Diobu district of Port Harcourt, along with other campuses at Ahoada, Emohua, Etche and Sokpenwa .
The university has 11 faculties including science, engineering, basic medical science, communications and media studies, management science, humanities, education, social science, agriculture, environmental science and law.
Its six institutes include research groups concerned with pollution studies and space technology as well as the Rivers Institute of Agricultural Research and Training.
The four research centres include Marine and Offshore Engineering, set up in 2018 with the support of petro-chemical corporations.
