The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland specialises in dance, drama, film, music and production. It was originally established in 1847 as part of the Glasgow Athenaeum. In 1929 it was renamed the Scottish National Academy of Music and became the Royal Scottish Academy of Music in 1944. It wasn’t until 2011 that the academy changed its name to the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

The conservatoire offers undergraduate degree programmes in six areas of the performing and production arts: dance, drama, education, film, music and production. Postgraduate students have the option to study drama, education, music or producing. The conservatoire also offers doctoral degrees and courses for children and young people.

There is a range of state-of-the-art facilities at the conservatoire including several performance spaces such as the New Athenaeum Theatre, Stevenson Hall and the Chandler Studio Theatre. It also boasts the Alexander Gibson Opera Studio, which was completed in 1998. There are more than 90 practice rooms available for students to make the most of their learning experience, as well as several professional recording studios.

The conservatoire is located in Glasgow, Scotland’s most populous city. A UNESCO World City of Music, Glasgow is known for its creative arts, music and theatre scene. Throughout the year the city hosts a variety of events and festivals including the Glasgow International Comedy Festival and the Glasgow International Jazz Festival. The city is also heavily populated with students (there are approximately more than 130,000) giving it a vibrant atmosphere.
