About us

The  School of Life Course & Population Sciences is one of six Schools that make up the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at King’s College London. The School unites over 400 experts in women and children’s health, nutritional sciences, population health and the molecular genetics of human disease.

 

Our research links the causes of common health problems to life’s landmark stages, treating life, disease and healthcare as a continuum. We are interdisciplinary by nature and this innovative approach works: 91 per cent of our research submitted to the Subjects Allied to Medicine (Pharmacy, Nutritional Sciences and Women's Health cluster) for REF was rated as world-leading or internationally excellent.

 

We use this expertise to teach the next generation of health professionals and research scientists.

 

Based across King’s Denmark Hill, Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Waterloo campuses, our academic programme of teaching, research and clinical practice is embedded across five Departments.

 

This is a collaborative appointment with the  SE London ICB.

Background

South East London Integrated Care System (SEL ICS) aims to create a value-based health system through the following approaches:


	Population Health Management (PHM) value-based care models and methodologies: includes outcomes, processes, and performance measurement, risk stratification, and predictive analytics
	Embedding intrinsic evaluation into new services to support commissioning decisions
	Optimising clinical practice by implementing data-driven, evidence-based approaches to enhance clinical practice
	Ensuring rapid translation of research and innovation into practical applications
	Enhancing research and innovation capacity in community and primary care to address emerging needs

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Lecturer specialising in Value-Based Health Care (VBHC) and Health Economics.

 

The successful candidate will be based in King’s Population Health Institute, within the Department of Population Health Sciences and will contribute through research, teaching, and service, focusing on advancing the understanding and implementation of value-based care models and economic evaluations in healthcare, transforming South East London Integrated Care Board approaches to improving health outcomes and the value of care delivery.

 

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and will be offered on a fixed-term until 05 January 2030.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

 

Essential criteria


	A PhD in Health Economics, Health Services Research, Public Health, or a related field
	Demonstrated potential for excellence in research and teaching. Prior experience in VBHC and Health Economics is highly desirable
	Strong analytical and quantitative skills
	Proficiency in relevant software and statistical tool
	Ability to work independently and as part of a team
	A record of publications in peer-reviewed journals
	Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities


Desirable criteria


	Experience in securing research funding is an advantage
	Experience of teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level

We are hiring a Doctoral Researcher to the project “Signal Recovery in Noisy Spatial Data” at the Deparment of Mathematics and Statistics, the University of Helsinki. The starting date is flexible, but candidates who can start in January 2025 will be preferred. The employment is for 3 years. There will be a trial period of six months in the beginning of the employment.

Position description

The project “Signal Recovery in Noisy Spatial Data” is funded by the Academy of Finland and develops dimension reduction methods for noisy multivariate spatial data, especially in a blind source separation context.

The successful candidate will work in Professor Klaus Nordhausen´s research group. The work of the doctoral researcher will focus on developing novel blind source separation estimators for multivariate spatial data under different signal and noisy configurations together with tools to estimate the signal dimension. Algorithms for the methods shall be derived and implemented and evaluated in case studies.

The doctoral researcher will have a chance to contribute to teaching up to 5 % of the annual working hours.

Qualifications

The person chosen for the position is expected to have a Master’s degree in statistics, mathematics, machine learning, or another relevant field, or they must be able to finish the degree/education before the start of the doctoral researcher position.  Alternative applicable degrees or educations are mentioned in the rules of eligibility.

The candidate must be fluent in English, both oral and written. Candidates who are familiar with spatial data or multivariate methods are especially encouraged to apply but it is not a prerequisite. Good programming skills are also considered a plus.

Candidates who do not currently hold the right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Helsinki are eligible to apply, but in the event of hiring, they are expected to acquire the study right during the 6-month trial period in the beginning of the employment. The research group of Prof. Dr. Ina Bergheim, Molecular Nutritional Sciences, Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Vienna is looking for support of the research projects in the thematic field of nutrition, metabolism and aging. We are an interdisciplinary research team working at the interfaces between nutrition and the development of metabolic diseases as well as healthy aging. We build on a good working atmosphere, close collaboration with our students and self-dependent involvement and coordination of research projects.

Your future tasks:

You will be responsible for the conceptualization, co-coordination and co-supervision of studies focusing on the development of metabolic abnormalities and aging-related alterations in humans and model organisms. Participation in paper writing and publication is expected. In addition, participating in teaching and examinations within the requirements of the collective agreement is expected. The successful candidate is expected to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months after being employed. The position is intended to lead to a PhD thesis typically in form of cumulative publications.

	Completed Master's degree or Diploma, in the field of nutritional sciences or related discipline (e.g. molecular biology, biochemistry, medicine) with a Master thesis preferably with a focus on nutrition and aging

	First experiences in working with primary tissue from model organisms as well as with molecular methods such as Western blot, immunohistochemistry but also enzyme-based assays

The employment duration is 3 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 3 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extensive declaration.

Description

The research group of Prof. Sunil Kumar in the Division of Engineering, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Postdoctoral fellow or research scientist to conduct research in the area of computational heat transfer and machine learning for radiative transfer in scattering media.

The successful applicant will use machine learning for solar photovoltaic (PV) and concentrated solar power (CSP) systems optimization, computational heat transfer and radiative transport using sophisticated numerical modeling and machine learning approaches for forward and inverse problems in radiation and fire research. The research associate will be responsible for simulation-based analysis for object detection methods and for optimization of solar energy applications. The applicant must be able to independently design, plan, and carry out the research project tasks as well as co-mentor doctoral researchers, and write journal and conference papers. The rank of postdoctoral fellow or research scientist will depend on the qualifications of the candidate selected.

The position is for the duration of 2 years starting on January 1, 2025, and it can be renewed based on performance and availability of funds.

Applicants must have a PhD in mechanical engineering, and experience with computational heat transfer and machine learning for heat transfer, especially radiation.

Research Position for Hormonal Crosstalk in the Plant Development Group

About this position:

Applications are invited for a 3–4-year research position in the research group of Helene Robert Boisivon, Ph.D., to join the TowArds Next GENeration Crops (TANGENC) project, reg. number CZ.02.01.01/00/22_008/0004581, in Programme Johannes Amos Comenius (Czech Republic - The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, co-funded by the European Union).

Our research aims at understanding the effects of endogenous and environmental regulators on plant morphogenesis and seed formation. We perform this work on two plant models: Arabidopsis thaliana and Brassica napus. Our objectives are to identify the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the regulation of hormonal pathways during seed production.

The researcher will be mainly involved in research activities within work package NO.5 – EDITING (New breeding techniques for crop improvement). H. Robert Boisivon and her group will participate in Brassica transformation and the improvement of gene delivery and genome editing in selected dicots.

The research group will be involved in project activities 5.8 Hormonal perception, root system development, and plant immunity and 5.9 Control of the transition to the reproduction stage, tolerance of sexual organs to heat and drought.

Research Specialist will participate in developing molecular tools and protocols for genome editing, transformation, and plant regeneration.
