About the position

The School of Nursing and Midwifery has immersed the curricula and research within a range of clinical contexts. The School offers undergraduate, postgraduate and higher degree research programs. An essential element is the establishment of Clinical Schools based at Alfred Health, Austin Health, Northern Health and Melbourne Health networks. The Clinical Schools enable students’ direct access to expert clinicians and clinical services and provide a rich environment for clinically relevant research and practice change and facilitate opportunities for staff to undertake clinical practice. The Bachelor of Nursing students are based at a clinical school for the third year of the program, with all relevant third year theory and clinical practicums provided within the clinical school networks. Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery students are also placed at the Women’s and Mercy Hospitals.  The School has a long established national and international reputation in nursing and midwifery research and education and the Clinical Schools provide opportunities for educational innovations, including simulation and clinician facilitated student supervision.

The School is seeking a teaching focussed Level B academic with expertise in contemporary nursing practice, and in facilitating undergraduate and postgraduate education.  

Reporting to the Clinical School Coordinator, the successful incumbent could work across all sites associated with the Melbourne (Bundoora) campus but will have a primary location at the Austin Health/La Trobe Clinical School on the Austin Hospital site. 

Duties at this level will include:


	Coordinate and teach subjects providing a high-quality learning experience that engages students through the conduct of lectures, tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and/or other sessions in online, blended or face-to-face modes.
	Provide constructive, fair and timely feedback on learning to students.
	Initiate, and participate in innovative subject and course level curriculum design (including the embedding of employability capabilities), development and review in areas such as, but not restricted to, online and blended delivery, taking an evidence-based approach to evaluate how these initiatives improve the student experience.
	Demonstrate a scholarly approach to learning and teaching by contributing to La Trobe’s SOLT including sharing of good practice.


Skills and knowledge required for the position:


	Registered or eligible to register as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
	A Masters or equivalent accreditation and standing recognised by the University/profession as appropriate for the Nursing discipline.
	Clinical Currency in professional nursing.
	Sound analytical skills with an ability to communicate complex information clearly both verbally and in writing.
	High level organisational skills with the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, initiate and follow-up actions, all with minimal or no supervision.

Your key responsibilities include:


	To take the lead on, plan, develop and conduct individual and/or collaborative research objectives, projects and proposals either as an individual or as part of a broader programme.
	To establish a national reputation and regularly disseminate and explain research findings through leading peer-reviewed national publications (on a sustained basis), conferences and other appropriate media.
	To generate income by developing and winning support for innovative research proposals and funding bids. Where appropriate undertake consultancy projects where there is a demonstrable benefit to the University and academic unit.
	To deliver teaching across a range of modules or within a subject area, providing curriculum leadership within own area of expertise.
	To coach and support tutorial groups, developing their knowledge and their learning skills, and be responsible for the pastoral care of students within a specified area, dealing with sensitive issues.
	Be responsible for and supervise practical work, including projects, field trips or placements, where it is part of the course, and advise students on techniques.


About You


	PhD or equivalent in relevant subject area.
	Higher Education teaching qualification or equivalent.
	Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clarity on complex and conceptual ideas to those with limited knowledge and understanding as well as to peers, using high level skills and a range of media.
	Ability to devise, advise on and manage learning and research programmes.

About the opportunity

The School of Civil Engineering is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate/Research Fellow - Water, Environment and Human Health in Fiji to contribute to the Watershed for Systems Health - Pacific (WISH-Pacific) project.

The WISH-Pacific is a dynamic project primarily implemented in Fiji in partnership with Fiji National University and the Wildlife Conservation Society. The first phase of the project concluded in 2023, and an additional stage of funding has now been secured. The Postdoctoral Research Associate/Research Fellow - Water, Environment and Human Health in Fiji will play a critical role in knowledge production utilising first phase data and implementation of the current phase of research.

	data management & analysis

About you

About the position

The social science/interdisciplinary Research Fellow role will contribute to a collaboration between La Trobe’s Climate Change Adaptation Lab within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (based in Bundoora, Melbourne) and the Centre for Freshwater Ecosystems within the School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment (based in Albury-Wodonga).

The aim of the funded River Communities project is to explore what river and floodplain communities know and monitor about the rivers they live with in order to help generate and apply new information sources. The project involves identifying and engaging community members and landholders who have an interest in rivers and floodplains to explore their data and knowledge around river flows, floodplain inundation and ecological conditions. It will design a framework for capturing and managing community information and developing citizen science monitoring options. Working with others, the Research Fellow role will involve on-ground field visits in the mid-Murray region to conduct interviews and work with communities to explore river data and develop and trial community monitoring approaches. It will likely involve engaging with Traditional Owners and First Nations groups in the region.

The role is suited to someone with a background in applying social science and/or citizen science to water, environmental and natural resource management problems. It requires a mixture of strong qualitative and quantitative social research capabilities and at least a degree of literacy in environmental sciences.  The work will involve working closely with others and independently to help deliver the project.

Some of your duties will include: 


	Building relationships with community.
	Conducting and writing up literature reviews.
	Helping design, organise and conduct the data collection and analysis.
	Contributing to writing up research findings for high quality publications.
	Working with the project team and industry partners to disseminate research findings.


Skills & Experience


	Completion of a PhD or equivalent qualifications in a relevant area of social science (e.g. Human Geography, Environmental Sociology).
	A record of publications of various sorts that provide evidence of sound analytical skills and strong research potential.
	Demonstrated capacity to conduct high quality social science methods.
	Ability to communicate complex information clearly both orally and in writing.
	High level organisational skills and the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively with staff, students, collaborators and industry partners from a diverse range of backgrounds.
