Applications are now invited for the following post: Senior Lecturer / Lecturer Department of Translation (Post Ref.: 25/308) The Department of Translation sets out to provide an education in bilingual studies which can nourish graduates with competence in Chinese and English as well as capacity to think independently. One of its central features is the equal emphasis on translation as a profession and as an academic discipline. Another feature is the importance attached to the socio-cultural environment of the Chinese and English languages. The appointee will be required to teach courses in some of the following areas: Computer-aided Translation, Public Relations in Practice, Business Translation, Translation and Technology, Interpreting, Translation and Culture, and English through Subtitles. Excellent command of Chinese and English is a must, and competence in both Cantonese and Putonghua will be an advantage. Description The Center for Smart Engineering Materials (CSEM) at New York University Abu Dhabi invites applications for a Research Assistant position to support ongoing research in the design, development, and characterization of innovative and multifunctional construction materials, including self-sensing and self-healing systems, with applications in infrastructure, oil and gas, and energy-efficient construction. The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of postdoctoral researchers, faculty members, graduate students, and undergraduate students on a range of projects, including: Investigation of self-healing cementitious materials, including chemical and bio-based approaches (e.g., bio-mineralization, encapsulated agents). Characterization of self-sensing materials, including their electrical and mechanical behavior under various stressors;Contribution to life-cycle assessment (LCA) and life-cycle cost analysis (LCCA) of novel materials to evaluate their environmental and economic impacts; Support in experimental design, data collection and analysis, and dissemination of findings through reports and publications. Qualifications: A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a closely related field. Prior experience in materials synthesis, especially from industrial byproducts or brine sources, and in construction material characterization. Familiarity with life-cycle assessment (LCA) tools and methodologies. Exposure to smart materials, self-healing technologies, or sensor-integrated cementitious systems is a strong plus. Strong laboratory skills, data analysis capabilities, and a collaborative mindset. Preferred Skills: Experience with AC impedance spectroscopy, electrical resistivity measurements, or chemical durability testing. Basic programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, Python) for data handling and sensor signal analysis. Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research and the ability to support multiple concurrent projects.
