Universidade Kimpa Vita is part of Angola’s national network of autonomous regional public universities.
It was founded in 1983 as the Instituto Superior de Ciencias da Educacio de Uige. It was part of Agostinho Neto university before attaining independence in 2009.
It was named after Kimpa Vita, a religious leader and anti-slavery campaigner.
It is located in Uige, Angola with a second campus in Kwanze North.
There are faculties of law, economics, management, accountancy, nursing, computer engineering, agronomy, veterinary science, economics, and a higher polytechnic school.
The Kwanze campus is home to the faculties of management accountancy and information technology management, administration management and clinical analysis.
An annual interdisciplinary journal, RCI-UNIKIVI, was launched in 2023 with an issue focussed on social sciences and humanities.
Since 2012, it has enjoyed a partnership with Dresden Technical University, with current joint projects including the restoration of the university's botanical garden.
