About

Basic information and contact details for Université du Québec

institution

The Université du Québec is a system of 10 public universities in Quebec, Canada, with the main headquarters in Quebec City.

The system was established in 1968 by the national assembly of Quebec largely in response to widespread student protests that had broken out that year around the lack of French-language universities.

The network of universities was modelled on the American University systems that already existed at the time.

It coordinates 300 programmes for over 87,000 students.

Université du Québec was first ranked by THE in the 2018 World University Rankings. Prior to this, one of the institutions that formed part of the Université du Québec system, Université du Québec à Montréal, was ranked as a separate insititution.
