The Université Mohamed El Bachir El Ibrahimi de Bordj Bou Arréridj was founded in 2000 as a non-profit public higher education institute. It's located in the small city of Bordj Bou Arréridj, the capital city of Bordj Bou Arréridj Province, Algeria.

The university is officially recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Algeria. Each year some 10,000 students enrol to study at the university.

There are seven faculties at which students can study at, including the faculty of science and technology, natural and life sciences and Earth and universe sciences, mathematics and computer science, letters and languages, social sciences and humanities, law and political science and economics, commerce and management sciences.

There are a range of facilities on site including a library as well as administrative services.

Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT. Key Responsibilities Design and teach labs & practice modules. Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Lead or co-lead innovation projects with industry. Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research. Ensure safety in labs Job Requirements A good degree in Building Services, Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Masters, PhD and/or relevant professional certifications like registered PE/CEng would be advantageous. Deep technical specialist with 10 or more years of working experience with mechanical systems in Building services environments or facility design consultancy would be preferred. Experience in following areas is highly desirable: Both design and management of mechanical building systems. Use of BIM software for design and engineering works and develop BIM models as well as knowledge in using CAD software such as REVIT, AutoDesk and ArchiCAD. Have working knowledge of building services systems such as Heat Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, lift, heat exchangers, micro-climate, simulations, fire-testing and acoustic experiments Have prior working experience in building and facility management Having experience with materials and materials property as well as materials testing, and fire testing is advantageous. Extensive experience and knowledge of industry practices to bring industry perspective to SIT as well as experience with Green Marking and energy management is advantageous. Keen interest in innovation projects, with demonstrated ability in developing solutions to technical problems. Strong supervisory skills and enjoy working closely with students in an educational environment. Demonstrate proficiency to keep abreast of development in the field and pursue professional certification programs. Possess industrial certifications in relevant areas will be an added advantage.

Research Engineer (Microgrid Controller Design) - TKJ2

As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The Research Engineer (Microgrid Controller Design) will contribute to a one-year applied research project funded by the Singapore Army, focusing on the development of a mobile DC microgrid for military tactical applications. The role involves designing and implementing advanced control algorithms to coordinate multiple energy sources including battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar PV, and diesel generators, and dynamically assign grid-forming roles under varying operating conditions. The engineer will develop, simulate, and test controller logic using MATLAB/Simulink or similar environments, analyse performance across diverse scenarios, and document results for technical reporting. This position is ideal for candidates with a strong foundation in control systems, software development, and power or energy management applications. Key Responsibilities Participate in the research project to design a mobile DC microgrid controller for military tactical applications. Develop control algorithms for dynamic master selection, coordinating BESS, PV, diesel generators, and other sources. Implement predictive, rule-based, or optimisation-based control strategies using MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or embedded software tools. Integrate controller logic with the microgrid model and validate performance under different simulated conditions. Conduct testing of control strategies under various operating conditions such as extreme weather, load variation, equipment failure and deployment constraints. Prepare documentation, flowcharts, control logic diagrams, and controller specifications for the final report. Assist with procurement of software licences and technical equipment. Conduct Risk Assessments and ensure compliance with WSH regulations. Support supervision of capstone project students involved in the project. Work independently and collaboratively to maintain research software and project tools. To communicate and liaise with any internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by supervisor. Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field from a recognised university. Strong programming skills in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++, or similar environments. Understanding of control systems, power electronics, or energy management strategies. Experience in microgrid controller design is advantageous. Familiarity with BESS control strategies, SOC management, or optimisation algorithms preferred. Support supervision of capstone project students involved in the project. Ability to implement and test algorithmic logic using simulation tools. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills. Excellent technical writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Applicants should be established experts with an internationally recognized record of scholarship in Marine Conservation. They should possess a Ph.D. in Marine Science, Conservation Biology, Environmental Policy, or a closely related field, and demonstrate a strong research focus in one or more of the following areas: marine protected areas, marine spatial planning, policy and management, fisheries, and/or ecosystem-based conservation. A proven track record of securing competitive research funding and publishing high-impact research of regional and global relevance is essential. Particular expertise and research experience in Southeast Asia, with a focus on China, are required. The appointee will be a key member of the Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS) at the University, providing academic leadership by developing a world-class research programme, mentoring junior staff and students, and contributing to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He/She will also serve as a key academic representative of the Hong Kong and China Marine Protection Alliances – cross-sector coalitions focused on marine conservation and sustainable use of marine resources at both local and national levels. Both initiatives are funded by the Swire Trust to coordinate and amplify marine protection efforts. Exceptional candidates may also be nominated for the endowed professorship – Swire Professorship in Marine Conservation.
