Founded in 1583, the University of Edinburgh (UoE) is the sixth oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of Britain and Ireland’s seven ancient universities.
It is made up of three colleges: arts, humanities and social sciences; science and engineering and medicine and veterinary medicine. Within these three colleges, there are 20 academic schools.
In total, the university attracts around 35,000 students, the majority of which study within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Science, the largest of its colleges.
Its College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine is reputed to be a world-leader in its field.
UoE is an internationally-focussed university and welcomes students from all corners of the globe, with the majority coming from China and the United States.
Its students can also take advantage of the Go Abroad Fund, which provides grants for 250 or students to have a short-term international experience each year. Additionally, students are also encouraged to either study or work abroad as part of their course.
The university receives over £200 million in research income. It spends over £26 million on prizes, scholarships, studentships and bursaries. At around £317 million, it has the third largest endowment of any UK university after Oxford and Cambridge.
A total of 20 Nobel laureates are affiliated with the University of Edinburgh. These include winners of Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Peace, Literature and the Memorial Prize in Economic Science.
Alumni include Charles Darwin, David Hume, Alexander Graham Bell and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, among many others.
Situated in the heart of the historic capital of Scotland, the city of Edinburgh is home to the Scottish Parliament, an ancient volcanic rock and an iconic castle.

The Clinic is an immersive and multi-modal experience, exposing students to the broad range of work in which environmental attorneys engage. We teach students key lawyering and advocacy skills through work on live cases that are excellent learning vehicles. Our case load involves a mix of regulatory work, litigation-related matters, and other advisory projects. The ELJC advocates on behalf of groups ranging in size from small community groups and neighborhoods to Indigenous Communities, to environmental or public justice organizations.The students work in the Clinic nearly full time and receive 10 academic credits for their project work and for their participation in the Environmental Law & Justice Clinic Seminar four hours a week. The students work on projects under the supervision of a Clinical Teaching Fellow/Supervising Attorney and faculty member. Our Clinic seminars address various substantive fields of law such as administrative practice and environmental justice, lawyering skills (including client-facing, internal collaboration, and external advocacy-related skills), topics on professional responsibility, and also consist of team project presentations regarding issues that have arisen in a representation and moots of client meetings.Description of The Fellowship The two-year Fellowship is an ideal position for an environmental and/or environmental justice lawyer interested in transitioning into legal academia and developing teaching and supervisory abilities in a setting that emphasizes a dual commitment-clinical education of law students and law employed in the public interest. The Fellow will have several areas of responsibility, with an increasing role as the Fellowship progresses. Over the course of the Fellowship, the Fellow will: Supervise students' day-to-day clinical projects, working closely with the students on improving their lawyering skills, especially legal research, writing, and analysis. Much of the supervising attorney's time is spent: guiding students in conducting legal and factual research; reviewing student drafts; offering suggestions for improvement as well as highlighting what students have done well and should replicate; and preparing the students for oral presentations. Fellows are expected to give and receive formal and informal feedback in timely, constructive, respectful ways; Take responsibility for their own case load as necessary; Share responsibility for designing and teaching seminar sessions; Take an active role in project/case development and assist with administrative and case handling responsibilities of the Clinic; Participate in a clinical pedagogy seminar and other activities designed to support an interest in clinical teaching and legal education. This Fellowship offers an opportunity to work on critically important, often cutting-edge matters. Description The Center for Translational Medical Devices (CENTMED) at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a Post-Doctoral Associate to contribute to the Surface Chemistry of Implants and Fabrication of Polymer Medical Devices. The successful applicant will collaborate with faculty and researchers at CENTMED to enhance the surface chemistry of implant materials, improving biocompatibility and osteointegration. This will involve surface modification of implants through methods such as plasma treatment, silanization, and the application of specialty coatings to impart corrosion resistance. Additionally, the candidate will develop polymeric lubricious coatings for catheters to minimize injury to blood vessels during the trans-catheterization process. They will characterize the surface modifications of implants using microscopy techniques, including Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The candidate will also map the nanomechanical properties of implant surfaces, assessing factors such as adhesion, friction, Young’s modulus, and surface free energy using AFM. The ideal candidate will bring experience in developing polymeric medical devices by identifying unmet clinical needs through interactions with clinicians, designing and developing medical devices, and fabricating medical device prototypes. Furthermore, the candidate should have experience in polymer processing techniques, including filament extrusion, compression molding, injection molding, and fused deposition modeling. This position requires the preparation of ISO/ASTM test specimens for mechanical (tensile and flexural) testing of polymers and composites using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM). The candidate will also estimate the glass transition temperature of polymers and composite materials through Dynamic Mechanical Analysis and develop osteoconductive polymeric implants for skull base surgery. Furthermore, the candidate will be involved in quantifying the adsorption of biomolecules on polymeric coatings using Quartz Crystal Microbalance with dissipation monitoring to model plaque build-up in coronary blood vessels. Other responsibilities include developing orthotic assistive devices from sustainable polymers and composites and co-developing medical devices with industry partners. The candidate will also assist in filing intellectual property rights related to medical device innovations. In addition to experimental work, the candidate will collaborate with CENTMED staff and leadership to prepare technology documentation and facilitate the translation of innovations to industry.
