About Memorial University of Newfoundland

Founded in 1925, Memorial University has grown to become one of the best comprehensive universities in Canada and among the top 20 research universities in the country. Inspired, in part, by the rugged maritime environment that helps shape who we are, Memorial’s faculty, staff, students and alumni have been rising to the challenge and pushing forward for a century.

Memorial has five campuses across Newfoundland and Labrador and one in Harlow, UK. We operate 14 other locations and specialized world-class research facilities as well. Each year, approximately 19,000 students attend Memorial University. Over 4,000 of them are graduate students and about 25 per cent of this population is made up of international students from over 125 countries. With so many students from around the world, this is a community where different perspectives meet to learn from one another and achieve common goals.

Supporting Students

Memorial offers one of the best student-faculty ratios in all of Canada. And our students are eligible for more than 1,300 scholarships, bursaries and awards from entrance to undergraduate and graduate. This includes $1.5 million in entrance scholarships and $9.5 million in graduate fellowships and scholarships. Our students have also received over 50 Rhodes scholarships along with other national and international awards.

We have a robust network of student supports for both undergraduates and graduates, and we offer very competitive tuition rates to help ensure our students can succeed in a place where they belong.
