Established in 1990, UW Bothell is a four year institute based in King County, based in the west of the state and now named for civil rights leader Martin Luther King. Shared with the UW Bothell campus is Cascadia, a community college.
Academic study at UW Bothell is divided between Business, Educational Studies, Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences, Nursing & Health Studies, and STEM subjects. All schools offer master’s programmes, and in 1998 UW Bothell became the first university to offer a Technology MBA in the Puget Sound region.
UW Bothell is a part of the Generation Study Abroad programme, and is dedicated to having 15% of students take courses overseas by 2020. Previous undergraduate students have studied at locations ranging from Spain to South Africa, and UW Bothell offers scholarships to cover the cost of airfare. The Master’s of Education course also has a long standing programme exercising for students to use their skills in rural Guatemala.
The university is also the architect of a restoration North Creek Wetlands restoration project, focusing on a 58 acre area near campus sites and one of the largest projects of its kind in the Pacific Northwest. Environmental enhancement is the key driving principle of the endeavour, and has led to extensive regeneration of the floodplain and an educational resource for kindergarten students and professional training of wetland mitigation regulators alike.
The Digital Future Lab is an interactive media production studio on campus, dedicated to maximising the input of a diverse student body in its design projects.
The university motto translates from Latin as ‘let there be light’.
