Victoria University was established in 2013, receiving its official charter in 2022.
VU’s main campus is in the central business district of the Ugandan capital, Kampala. However, there are plans to relocate the university to a larger, more spacious campus.
There are six undergraduate faculties: science and technology; humanities and social sciences; health sciences; business and management; education and lifelong learning; and law. Courses follow the VU Block Model, which allows students to focus on one module per four-week learning block. This means that students learn one topic at a time, before being assessed on it and moving on to the next topic.
Students are provided with a career readiness and employability programme as soon as they are admitted to VU. This is later complemented with work placements, during which they can continue their academic studies online.
Co-curricular activities include football, netball, basketball and woodball (an East Asian version of croquet). The students’ lounge provides a games console, pool table and table-tennis table. And social activities include a Mr and Miss VU competition, international day, fun day, movie night and an end-of-year party.
