Basic information and contact details for Xuzhou Medical University
Founded in 1958 as the Xuzhou branch of Nanjing Medical College, Xuzhou Medical University became independent the following year and took on its current name in 2016.
Based in one of Eastern China’s gateway cities, around 200 miles from Nanjing, Xuzhou Medical University focuses on medical and dental education and research throughout the Jiangsu province and the Haihai economic zone.
It has four campuses and 36 affiliated hospitals, the oldest of which dates back to 1897. The university offers some 28 different undergraduate programmes. The university has been issuing its own doctorates – previously accredited by the Chinese Medical University – since 2013.
It aims to teach students both the theory and clinical practice in equal measure.
International students were first admitted to programmes in medicine in 2005 and to programmes in nursing from 2016. The School of International Education was founded in 2011, and currently serves around 500 students from 50 different countries. The Principal’s Foundation fund provides finance for overseas students on doctoral programmes.
The university's speciality is considered to be anaesthesiology which has been offered since 1986 as a separate undergraduate discipline.
