I presume Gerard Kelly is seriously challenged by theology given the vehemence of his claims: "devoted to the study of a fraudulent notion", "such obtuseness" and "theology ... has two strands ... exegesis ... and ... religious studies"; and his choice of examples to study ("Let us not prey on theology", 24 January). Why not study why church schools are successful, and popular not only with Christians, but also Hindus, Muslims and secularists?
The severity of the challenge has apparently rendered Kelly unable to find out that theology is not identical to exegesis. His ignorance of theology and philosophy suggest that he is not immune to obtuseness.
