At the Scotcat lunch, Jim MacCallum, vice principal of St Andrews University, gallantly donated his portion of pavlova to a sweet-toothed hackette who had already made short work of her own plateful. This led to cries of outrage from his fellow academics: "What would Lord Nolan say?''
