China Subject Ratings 2024: Physical Science

The Times Higher Education China Subject Ratings are the only performance tables that judge Chinese institutions against their global peers based on the Chinese Ministry of Education’s classification of subjects.

The ratings for physical science reveal performance across 13 subjects: astronomy; atmospheric sciences; biology; chemistry; ecology; geography; geology; geophysics; marine sciences; mathematics; physics; statistics; and systems sciences.

In total, 1,511 universities worldwide receive a rating for at least one subject in the physical science pillar, with 250 achieving an A+ in at least one of the subjects.

Peking University is the top-performing institution in mainland China, achieving 11 A+ grades for physical science, followed by Nanjing University with nine and Fudan with eight.
