Basic information and contact details for Al-Janad University for Science and Technology

institution

Established in the city of Taiz in October 2018, Janad has been described by its rector as “a complementary partner in the process of development and modernisation of higher education in our beloved country, Yemen”.

Taiz, historically known as the cultural capital of Yemen and its third largest city, is home to 10 of the 35 universities recognised by Yemen’s Ministry of Higher Education. Janad is one of nine private institutions in the city.

Located at an altitude of 1,400m in the highlands close to the Red Sea port of Mocha, Taiz has a population close to one million. A walled city until 1948, it was Yemen’s political capital from 1948 to 1962 and has been among the frontlines of the civil war started in 2015.

Janad has set itself the task “to locally lead and regionally compete in education and scientific research, and to effectively contribute to community sense".

Its 18 degree courses are spread across colleges of medical science, engineering and information technology, and administrative science and humanities. The courses were chosen after analysis of local and regional market needs and capacity for attaining accreditation, so interior design and decoration sits alongside mechatronics, civil engineering and architecture in the school of engineering.

Other early priorities have included the provision of modern laboratories and classrooms and collaboration with other institutions of higher education.

By 2023, Janad had 3,329 students on its roll.
