ABOUT XJTLU

In 2006 Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) was created by the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University – a top ten university in China. Offering a unique international education experience, XJTLU brings together excellent research practice and expertise from both institutions and gives students the skills and knowledge they need to secure careers in a global marketplace. ABOUT SCHOOL OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY

The School of Advanced Technology has five departments (intelligent Science, Computing, Mechatronics and Robotics, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Communications and networking). As a research and practice-led school our faculty and staff are committed to providing our students with a challenging and stimulating environment, as well as unlocking their full potential. Upon graduation, students will become highly sought-after candidates with strong academic knowledge as well as extensive transferable skills in communication, teamwork and project management.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Applicants will have extensive teaching experience, have published high quality papers in their area of expertise, have been successful in obtaining research grants, and have substantial experience in the supervision of research students. The successful candidate, in addition to teaching typically two modules/courses per year (i.e. one per semester), will provide leadership in curriculum development and enhancing our research profile at the international level. They are expected to assume administrative responsibilities based on their experience.

	Ideally few years of teaching/research experience at a university or equivalent after completion of PhD degree;
	PhD supervision capacity;
	Strong publications record in an area of expertise;
	Evidence of success in obtaining research grants;
	Fluency in English.


Successful applicants to more senior professorial ranks are expected to also show:


	A significant record of high-quality academic publications,

	Experience in PhD supervision.


Desirable Qualifications/Experience


	Professional memberships such as BCS, IET, ACM, IEEE and HEA;

The School of Mathematics and Physics at XJTLU is one of the major schools in the University where we have about 2500 mathematics related majors. ROLE OVERVIEW

The Associate Dean for Research (ADR) is a key member of the senior management team in the School of Mathematics and Physics, working alongside the Dean, Deputy Dean, Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching, and five department heads. Together, they oversee executive functions such as policy development, strategic planning, and, in collaboration with administrative staff, the management and coordination of school operations.

This role is central to shaping the school’s research strategy, fostering industry partnerships, and enhancing the impact of the school’s research. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Media and Communication is a dynamic and innovative academic centre dedicated to exploring the complexities of media, communication, and their impacts on society.

The department offers BA, MSc and PhD programs, with a curriculum of a diverse array of topics, including media theory, multimedia journalism, digital media production, advertising, public relations, cultural studies and beyond, all designed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for success in the rapidly evolving fields of media and communication.

Working in four interrelated research clusters – Digital Technology and Society, Culture, Creativity and Communication, Journalism and Society, Screen Studies and Popular Culture, staff in the department explore and publish on many salient and pressing issues such as the role of (social) media and communication in representation, identity, gender issues, creativity, cultural heritage, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its transformative impact, algorithmic bias, privacy concerns, misinformation detection. The Department is quickly emerging as an internationally recognised hub for leading research and innovative teaching. Through research-led teaching, cutting-edge research and active engagement with industries, the Department strives to create an inclusive and supportive environment for students to ensure our students develop into creative and responsible global citizens. The research-led teaching also makes our students competitive for entry in top postgraduate programmes and the Chinese and international job markets.

RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking appointees at the associate professor level and above, with strong evidence of leadership in research and teaching in media and communication studies, specializing in journalism, digital media, cultural creative industries, advertising, screen studies, or cultural studies. Experience in service is prioritized.

The appointees are expected to perform the following duties:


	Publish high-quality research on media and communication or practice-based research leading to high-quality academic outputs, including in refereed journals
	Apply for internal and external grants
	Enable and empower colleagues to conduct research activities
	Coordinate and deliver courses in the department’s existing programs
	Contribute/lead curriculum development, esp, in the AI enhancement of education
	Mentor junior colleagues in research, teaching and service

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES

The department welcomes applications from prospective colleagues at the following levels of experience:

Associate professor: Open to experienced candidates that have developed an internationally recognized research profile, as evidenced, for example, by publication in international peer reviewed journals, research grant income, and supervision of doctoral students to completion. Candidates should also have a well-developed teaching profile, with evidence of external recognition and teaching innovation. Candidates should have strong evidence of leadership in departmental and university contexts.

Senior associate professor: Open to candidates with an internationally established and recognized research profile, demonstrating sustained output in leading international peer-reviewed journals, repeated research grant income, and regular supervision of doctoral students. Candidates should be experienced university teachers with a well-developed teaching portfolio, with evidence of external recognition and teaching innovation. Candidates should demonstrate extensive experience in leading the development of research and teaching strategy in departmental and university contexts.

Professor: Open to candidates with significant experience in international higher education, an exceptional publication record for discipline, outstanding record of external grant application, and successful supervision of doctoral students. ABOUT INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS SCHOOL SUZHOU (IBSS)

International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is growing in size and influence in pursuit of its vision to be a leading international business school. The school is based on strong principles of internationalism, innovation, inspiration and integrity, which together ensure that we have a positive impact on society through our teaching, research and business engagement. In that pursuit, IBSS became the youngest business school to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in 2016, and again, the youngest School to receive EQUIS accreditation in 2018. Receiving joint accreditation of AMBA and BGA in 2020, IBSS became the world’s 103rd triple accredited business school.

The five departments of IBSS are Accounting, Economics, Finance, Intelligent Operations and Marketing, and Strategic Management and Organizations with over 170 faculty members and more than 6,000 students from over 60 different countries. IBSS delivers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA, PhD and Executive Education programmes across all major business disciplines.

The Finance Department becomes an independent academic unit at the beginning of the 2020/21 academic year, as a result of splitting the original Department of Accounting and Finance. At present, the Finance Department has a team of 25 academic staff, publishing in high-quality international journals in finance and other business fileds and also maintaining a balance of academic research and professional engagement. All of our finance faculty members are PhD holders and some are affiliated with professional accounting and finance bodies such as the Certified Financial Analysts Institute (CFA) and CPA Australia. Members of the Department teach a spectrum of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Management, Marketing, Financial Mathematics, and Financial Computing, etc. The Finance Department currently offers two MSc programmes (MSc Finance, MSc Investment Management). The MSc Investment Management programme has received professional recognition from the Certified Financial Analysts Institute. In addition, a new MSc Entrepreneurship and Innovation (FinTech Pathway) was launched in 2022.

RESPONSIBILITIES

XJTLU is a research-led university. In this context, even though the workload of Research track faculty in IBSS is generally shared between teaching, research, and service, early-career faculty members are expected to spend the majority of their time on research, followed by teaching, then service. Research activities include the publication of research articles, attendance of international conferences, and applications for research funding. Research performance in the School is benchmarked on internationally recognized lists of journal quality such as the Academic Journal Guide (UK) – a.k.a. the ABS list – and the ABDC list (Australia). The target levels on those lists are ABS3/ABDC-A or above. Other than Research track faculty, we also welcome applications for Teaching and Practice track faculty positions.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCES

Successful applicants to the position of Teaching Fellow/Senior Teaching Fellow are expected to have:


	A Master’s degree (preferably a PhD degree for Senior Teaching Fellow) in Finance or a related field,
	Teaching experience in higher education with evidence of teaching excellence,
	Experience in programme development and teaching-related scholarship (e.g. publication of case study or teaching-related research),
	Professional qualifications (CFA/FRM and other equivalent finance qualifications).

	A recognized qualification in the practice of learning and teaching in higher education,

ABOUT ENTREPRENEUR COLLEGE (TAICANG)

In 2019, the XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang) was launched, as a pioneers of, and an educational model for, the future university and campus in developing talents and leaders to meet local, national, and global challenges arising from the 4th Industrial Revolution.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF CHIPS

The School of CHIPS is one of the seven industry-themed Schools in the XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang). Each School consists of an Education, Research and Development Institute (ERDI) for teaching and research collaboration, a one-stop School Office providing professional services to support student administration and activities, members of staff, and industry partners, and an affiliated School Joint-Venture Company jointly established by XJTLU and the School’s partner for industry-embedded teaching, learning, practical, and other activities. The governance of the School is through a School Council. The Dean of School oversees the School Management Team as well as contributing to the leadership of the Taicang campus. 

Industry Partner Overview

The School of CHIPS is jointly developed by the University and industry partners, Standard Science Chip Cloud Microelectronics and Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, to deliver the industry-themed programme(s). The first-degree programme that the School has launched for the Academic Year 2021/2022 is BEng Microelectronics Science and Engineering with Contemporary Entrepreneurship.  

Standard Science Chip Cloud Microelectronics is a comprehensive technology enterprise specialising in investment in integrated circuit industry chain services. Under the guidance of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology is one of the earliest engineering research institutes in China. PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

The School of CHIPS is adopting a new higher education model based upon the concept of Syntegrative Education (SE). SE is a new model developed by the University to address an increasingly networked and complex future of work in the 4th Industrial Revolution. The model is core to the University’s strategy for its next ten-year development focusing on innovation and entrepreneurship. SE aims to train syntegrative leaders with Management skills, International perspective, Discipline-specific knowledge, and adaptability in Industry (MIDI). 

The position will attract individuals embodying these SE values and are passionate in engaging in a future-focused co-learning ecosystem comprising students, academics, practitioners, university, industry, and community. The School seeks academic members who thrive by creating impact through authentic engagement, cross-boundary collaboration, collective learning and discovery, and action-oriented inquiries. These creative educators adopt a systems mindset and use their knowledge, skills, and experiences to co-design and deliver an enriching educational experience for students. They view education as an integrative and life-long transformative process.

RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for future colleagues who can:


	Understand and have an entrepreneur and innovative mindset, in line with the ethos of the College.
	Deliver high-quality teaching to undergraduate and graduate students, as evidenced by peers, students and external examiners.
	Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.
	Provide administrative service to the School, the University and its stakeholders.
	Maintain a sustained record of successful PhD supervision.
	Work collaboratively with relevant School(s), College and University entities to identify opportunities for meaningful and genuine partnership and successful impact-creation for research. 
	Conduct high-quality industry-enhanced research and consultancy contracts, evidenced by contribution that output makes to industry, the economy, society, environment or culture, beyond the contribution to academic research.
	Maintain good, sustained, and successful research grants with impact measured by publications in leading journals and other research outputs.
	Create, develop and manage successful research partnerships with industry, academic institutions, and other external organisations.
	Support innovative cross-disciplinary research in line with the Entrepreneur College (Taicang) research themes, and become an ambassador for the School for the promotion of cross-boundary research and teaching activities.
	Engage actively with new educational models and embrace innovative, interactive, technology-enhanced learning, teaching, and assessment approaches; understand and have an entrepreneur and innovative mindset in line with College ethos.
	Contribute to the school’s teaching development through mentoring and supporting early career academics (Associate Professor and above). 
	Any other appropriate tasks assigned by the Entrepreneur College or University through the Dean of School or College Senior Management Team.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES


	A doctoral research (normally PhD) degree in electrical and electronics engineering, microelectronics engineering, integrated circuits design, integrated circuits fabrication, microprocessor systems, digital VLSI design, CMOS digital integrated circuits, or be able to demonstrate an equivalent professional practice and engagement.
	Self-motivated for innovative teaching.
	Clear understanding of the philosophy and concept of Syntegrative Education (SE).
	Demonstrable past teaching/industry experiences or practices aligned with Syntegrative Education (SE).
	A commitment to Continual Professional Development in all areas of the role as an academic at the university.
	Ability to work, teach and research in English.
	Strong team-work spirit.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE


	A good track record of engagement with business and industry.
	University-level teaching experience. 
	Relevant industry experience.
	Appropriate research experience, including working with industry, for the corresponding academic position level.
	Experience in intensive teaching and problem-based learning, and a willingness to be innovative in teaching practices. 
	An institutional builder, able to work with wider disciplines across the college.


CITIZENSHIP AND VISA REGULATIONS

Employment at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is regulated by Chinese Labour Laws, and must comply with the regulations of the provincial government. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal employment with regard to obtaining work permits and visas.  Please be advised candidates over 65 may be not eligible for a work visa in the P.R. China.
