Shortlisting your top university choices has always been challenging, but with Covid-19 disrupting overseas travel and many everyday activities, students around the world have had to adjust to a fast-evolving digital world.
At the University of Warwick, we’ve adapted by making our regular open days virtual, with campus tours, webinars and panel sessions all moving online. In 2020, more than 7,800 students from 98 countries attended one of our virtual open days.
Ahead of our next events on 17, 18 and 19 June, we’ve put together five tips for making the most of online events.
Come prepared
Think about what’s important to you in a university. Do you think a campus or city university will suit you best? What facilities are you looking for? We recommend thinking of some questions that you would like to ask staff and students during the event. You can read our student blogs before the event, too.
Check your internet connection
You might need to do some checks and tell your household when you will be online to ensure that your session doesn’t get disrupted by technical issues. If you’d rather not appear on camera or speaker, that’s fine; you will still be able to interact and ask questions using the live chat option.
Speak to the experts
Don’t just interact with the academics teaching your chosen course. Open days are a great opportunity to speak to current students. They can give you an authentic insight into their experience of studying in the UK and how they’ve settled into student life.
Attend a variety of sessions
Virtual open days cover all aspects of student life and the university experience, so you can pick and choose the sessions that interest you most. It’s worth visiting the university’s website to explore what information is already available. For example, Warwick’s virtual campus tour can give you a good idea of the feel of our campus before you attend an open day.
Take notes
It’s a good idea to note down any important information to help you to compare the different universities you engage with. Studying overseas could well be one of the biggest decisions you make in your life, so it’s good to have a record.
The University of Warwick is running virtual open days on 17, 18 and 19 June for students looking to study their undergraduate degree in the UK from autumn 2022.
